I got to see Walk the Moon give a show again last night!
I first saw them in February, and they put on a phenomenal show. Their music is soul-healing for me, so experiencing it live the first time was an amazing night that I will remember forever. Plus, I got to meet three of the four bandmembers after the show, so that was pretty special, too.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to go see them while they toured with 30 Seconds to Mars on the Monolith Tour, thanks to a crappy work schedule. So when I heard they would be giving a post-game show after a Cincinnati Reds game, I jumped on the chance to see them again. Cincy's close to home, and my family are all big Reds fans, so getting a group of folks together to go on a mini-road trip was easy. I don't care much for baseball (I think it's boring to watch), but my older sister and my sister-in-law love it. My younger sister also enjoys it, so she came too. My sister-in-law Megan's two younger sisters also came along, but I don't think either of them were too into the game. They were both there for the post-game show like I was.
The game wasn't awful, just incredibly boring. There were a couple good hits and a few double plays which are pretty neat. They also gave out Funko Pops of one of the players-I don't collect them, so in exchange for buying my ticket for me I gave the figurine to Kristy.
During the middle of the eighth inning, we collected our things and left the nosebleed section. We were able to get to the section by the first-base line to see the show. The stage was set up at second base, and from our seats it was difficult to see, but the camera crew for the stadium made good use of the two jumbotrons during the show. I got a couple of half-decent shots with my phone camera, but Kristy got some great ones with her digital camera. I'm waiting for her to upload those and send them to me.
The setlist was a lot shorter than I'd have liked, but they played a few of my favorites, and they didn't have the time allotted to play any more than they did. My sisters half-enjoyed it (Kristy liked the music but didn't like being out as late as we were, and Emily said the music was good but it was far too loud for her), and Megan and her sisters loved it. I plan to take Megan if I get the chance to see them headlining again.
We had planned to stay in Cincinnati most of the day, shopping and exploring, but Emily just got hired at a new job and needed to be back in town by early afternoon for her first training shift. We cut our stay short and just did breakfast before heading home. We may try for another weekend when all of us can get the time off work to go back up to Cincy and explore. It's only two-three hours away from us, so it's an easy drive and a nice little weekend getaway when we can do it.
All in all, this was a good weekend. I got to spend time with my sisters, got to see one of my favorite bands live, and actually managed to get some sleep at night. I'm actually off until Wednesday night, so I'm going to try to keep a normal sleep schedule until then. We'll see if it works! Of course, then my work schedule goes down the drain. I work Wednesday, am off Thursday, and then work the next four nights in a row. Which is unfortunate, because my brother Andy will be in from Arizona on Wednesday, and is staying until the sixth. I'll be at work or asleep for most of the time that he is in. Luckily I got Thursday off, because we're planning a big family dinner that night. My brother Matt and I are going to attempt Mom's recipe for Swedish meatballs, which we haven't had since sometime before her passing in 2015. I just hope it turns out somewhere close to how I remember it.
I'm also looking forward to Andy's visit because he'll get to meet our niece for the first time. Makenzie was born in December, and he wasn't able to come in for Christmas, so he's only seen photos of her and "met" her through Skype. It sucks for him that he lives so far away and he hasn't been able to meet her yet, so I'm glad that he will be able to before she turns a year old. I think Ashton was around seven or eight months old when Andy got to meet him for the first time, and he's only seen him a few times. Ashton will be three in March.
That's the one reason I don't think I'll ever move far from home. I'd love to try out life in a bigger city, or move around every few years while I'm still youngish and able, but I'm at the point in my life where I want to buy a house and put down roots, and look toward starting a family. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I got pregnant and started a family so far away from home that no one could meet my child(ren).
I'm rambling now. I need to shut off my computer and go to bed. Thanks for listening :)
