Prompt: Warmth

It came as a revelation as he disembarked at the station: he'd never been to Risembool without the bite of icy rain or sharp bone-gnawing wind. Enveloping warmth was not something he had been expecting, though in the early days summer, he wasn't sure why he was surprised. Shucking off his heavy greatcoat came as a relief, but the extra weight over his arm was less pleasant. The woolen patch was downright uncomfortable.

The trek to the Rockbell house was shorter than he recalled. Perhaps not having to slog through muddy roadways played a role in that as well? He stood in the dirt path with his hands buried in his pockets. He could hear voices inside, spilling out from the open windows.

It was Alphonse who saw him first - deep military blues were stark against green fields - mouth fallen open just enough that Mustang could see it from where he stood. A quick smile and a wave of acknowledgment, which he returned, before the boy disappeared from sight behind the curtain.

He was still trying to decide whether he should wait to be summoned, or climb the porch and knock, when movement from the second story caught his eye. Heavy yellowing linen was nearly ripped from it's curtain rod as it was jerked back, and a pair of hands, one flesh and sinew, the other steel, closed around the sill as Edward Elric levered himself halfway out the window, bare from the waist up and hair half-plaited. He couldn't quite see the amber of the young man's eyes, but the brilliant flash of teeth was unmistakable.

"Colonel!" He crowed.

"Hello, Fullmetal." He felt his lips twitch at the corner.

"Hello yourself!" Came the shouted reply. "You planning on standing there all day?" And Mustang imagined he could hear the blonde grinning.
