This morning, on my way to my daily 8 a.m. class- which, by the way, I have decided is one of the primary reasons why I have been having a hard time adjusting to Tallahassee- I discovered a bag of jelly beans in my pocket. I thought of throwing one to a squirrel, but quickly concluded that there were much, much more entertaining things to do with jelly beans.
My brilliant idea was to leave a subtle trail in amusing places: in the mouth of a statue, perhaps, or on the nose of a bust of an FSU Has Been. In the process of carrying this out, I have made some unexpected discoveries, such as that if you lick a jelly bean and then press it firmly to a surface, it will stick. Jelly beans are just the right size for balancing on a leaf and the right shape and color for being visible without being ostentatious. And, best of all, they are clearly out of place, but only if you look carefully.
I have cheerfully made my rounds this morning- to class from my car, to the student union from class- seeking witty placement for my jelly beans and furtively yet purposefully leaving a trail behind me.
What prompted such ingeniousness? Well, I can only attribute it to getting eight hours of sleep last night. I honestly cannot recall the last time I got more than six hours of sleep in a night, and I am profoundly amazed at how different I feel. Maybe my whining about transitional periods and the like have been completely off the mark. I'll have to start whining about lack of sleep instead and see if that makes the difference.
