a/n: so this is probably the most fail fluff ever but i tried? rofl. a little christmas present for my darling, my favorite,
yuxo ♥ ♥ ♥ i love you so freaking much, and i hope you like this ficlet. ^^ i'll probably write you sth else at a later time that i can spend more time on, like smut or sth. but i thought fluff was appropriate for christmas~
Christmas was always something that Changmin found rather strange and confusing. Even after endless hours of frantic research with his laptop on his lap and his hair pulled back for serious concentration, he still didn’t understand the trees or the lights or the presents.
The one thing he did understand about Christmas was the smile that it brought to Yunho’s face, and he decided that that was reason enough to go along with it year after year. And so he helped as Yunho went around putting up random decorations that he got from who knows where, and once all of the lights and tinsel and random Santa Clauses were up, they both stood back to survey their handiwork.
Changmin was satisfied, but when he looked over at Yunho, he didn’t see the same satisfaction mirrored there. Something was missing, and it hit him all too easily.
They were missing that godforsaken tree, and Changmin looked towards Yunho with a barely hidden grin.
“Let’s go shopping.”
And now, he was standing outside, freezing half to death and surrounded by families and the overwhelming smell of pine. He had never been shopping for a Christmas tree, obviously, and he really had never been surrounded by so many at once.
Yunho was shifting through the different choices, looking at them carefully, feeling branches and measuring height with his eyes. Changmin hung back slightly, arms folded tightly around himself, wishing he had worn more layers.
“What do you think about this one?”
Yunho’s voice brought Changmin out of his mini trance, and he ducked through the trees to find him.
The tree that he was standing by was completely ridiculous. It was missing leaves in some areas, some of the branches seemed to be malfunctioning somehow, and it was crooked. Changmin stared at it for a few long moments, but it was obvious that Yunho was being completely serious.
“… really?” Changmin finally asked, and Yunho nodded with a sure smile. “Really really.” “But … it’s dying. And crooked. And … diseased.”
Yunho sighed slightly and walked up behind Changmin, warm arms wrapping around him and holding him tight, smiling just barely. “I think it’s the perfect tree.”
Changmin was powerless against him, and an hour later they were attempting to set up the thing in the middle of their living room.
It took much too long and required more effort than Changmin ever would’ve expected, but soon enough it was over and the diseased tree was in the very center of their living room.
“I really think it’s dying,” Changmin said skeptically, surveying it with his hip cocked to the side and one hand resting on it, the way that the others liked to tease him for standing. Yunho tried not to laugh as he flung his arms over Changmin’s shoulders, leaning down until their noses were touching.
“It’s perfect,” he argued, and Changmin decided that when Yunho was this close to him and smiling and his stomach was doing weird acrobatic routines, there was no way to argue.
Instead, he made a sound that sounded kind of like a dying animal, and this time Yunho did laugh before capturing his lips in a slow, easy kiss.
“Merry Christmas,” he murmured, the words low and smooth and caught between their lips, but still, it made Changmin smile.
“Happy Holidays,” he teased back, tugging on Yunho’s hand lightly to pull him down the hallway.
And he was sure that this was what it would be like with them for years to come. Not always perfect, with varying religions and opinions and Christmas trees falling apart. But at least it would be love.
