There's just nothing quite as hot as a pair of sexy, speedy cars makin' it with each other. I really enjoyed this, but one thing kept jarring me out of it... the use of "servos".

A "servo" is generally either a servomechanism, or a servomotor. They are components which can me found throughout a mechanical device as complex as a Transformer. Using "servo" specifically to refer to a "hand" is... confusing to anyone with even the most passing of engineering backgrounds. (And by passing, I mean "having played with a Radio Shack toy or two in their youth")

There are going to be servos in the shoulder, the hips, the neck, everywhere, just about, that there is a joint or other significant moving part... and seeing things like "pushing Mirage up against the wall with his servos pinned above his helm" makes me automatically wonder what portion of Mirage's anatomy just got savaged to come up with those servos. Can't say that I'm terribly much into vore or gore, so that really jars me out of the sexy like whoa.

I've noticed a lot of the incorrect use of "servos" on the tfannonkink replies, and I just can't help but wonder... Where did it all come from?

I'm not sure exactly where it all stemmed from. I picked it up through reading other fics and whatnot and everytime I see a list of terminology for the fandom and whatnot, servo is usually put as hands. I started using it because for awhile there I was getting a lot of crap from people for using terms like "hands" and "lips", etc when I was referring to Transformers.

I see what you mean though, as to what servos truly are and it really does make you wonder how it all got connected together in the first place.

I think the term servo used for hands came from Animated. Fanfic writers just exceeded the term from the Animated line and into other generations for their own personal gain thinking its a more relative term for the mechanics of a bot's form.

But I might be wrong.

I think you're right; they did use the term "servos" a lot in animated.
