we found love (right where we are)
Minseok feels some sort of domestic comfort when he wakes up to the slim, naked figure sleeping beside him. The said figure's shoulder is rising and falling dynamically to the rythm of his soft breathing, and Minseok's heart swells. It's only seven in the morning and he can't get himself even warmer than he is now.
It's Luhan, his Luhan. His Luhan sleeps by his side, his Luhan on his arms again. It feels like a dream, but it's real. Minseok feels proud at himself that he didn't cry when Luhan made love to him last night, spelling love and yearn in the most incredible way Minseok could ever imagine.
After all, Minseok can only imagine those sort of things with Luhan.
Minseok reaches out a hand to touch Luhan's hair gently, feeling the familiar fluffy strands under his fingertips. No matter how many times Luhan has dyed his hair, its softness just won't go away and Minseok supposes he likes it that way. Luhan's hair is now light brown with a faint shade of pink, he lets his fringe grow and now it almost touches his eyes. Luhan tells him the hairstylist mostly styled his hair upward or push it back, and Minseok knows Luhan doesn't really like it. He likes when his hair is down covering his forehead, he likes when his hair is just like the way it is - without too much chemical touches here and there. He also likes when Minseok dries his hair for him after a long, warm bath, but Minseok isn't going to talk about that now.
"Why are you staring at me while I'm asleep?"
Minseok, although surprised, tries to maintain his cool. "Why are you pretending to sleep while you aren't?"
Luhan smiles, his eyes still closed. Minseok wonders if he was just sleep talking just now. But he's sure Luhan is fully awake because the next thing this man does is pulling Minseok by his waist and resting his head on Minseok's bare torso.
"I wasn't pretending. You woke me up, but I didn't want to lose the sight of your affectionate face so I kept my eyes closed. Kim Minseok, do you love me that much?"
"Yeah, I guess." Minseok laughs and pats Luhan's head gently. "Get off, I'm making breakfast. And since you're my guest, I oblige you to make the beds before you leave the room. Can you do that much, my love?"
"What- you- shit, I shall never leave Korea again," Luhan mutters under his breath. He wishes he heard things wrong, because Minseok couldn't have called him love, but Minseok really did call him by the sweet nickname and Luhan can't let himself lose at this embarrassing fight. "Fine, love. Anything for you."
"That's the answer I wanted to hear," Minseok leans down and presses a chaste kiss on Luhan's lips. "Good morning, Luhan."
Luhan smiles into Minseok's lips, nudging Minseok's nose with his own. "Good morning, Minseok. Don't you have any story to tell me today?"
"Ha, trying to get away from your obligation?" Minseok flicks Luhan's forehead playfully. "I do, about two men who found themselves in each other's arms long ago, and they both wonder whether each other still has the magic to pull them back together after circumstance got them separated."
Luhan grins, "Tell me about it."
"I will, but first things first, clean up the mess you made last night, please."
Luhan and Minseok found each other roughly six years ago, when both Minseok and Luhan were young, naive people who just entered entertainment industry. Luhan was worst, being in the foreign land with minimum knowledge made him hard to socialize and the most he could do was smiling politely at everyone passing him in the hall. The building was busy, and Luhan knew he should be doing something instead of standing here like a fool, but at the same time Luhan didn't know how to get his feet moved.
And then, he met Kim Minseok. Or, that's how he heard people called him by the name, and the said guy would flash them gummy smile and his eyes crinkled cutely when someone talked to him. Some loud youngsters called him hyung, and Luhan couldn't believe his eyes. This Minseok guy should be at least two or three years younger than him, so the young guys who chatted with him earlier were practically a baby compared to him. Luhan shrunk, suddenly feeling too nervous to reach forward.
"Are you a trainee?" Minseok approached him first, his overall appearance suits a ten years old boy at most. "I'm Minseok, Kim Minseok. Also a trainee."
"Luhan, I'm from China so my Korean is kind of limited, and I'm a trainee. Uh, nice to meet you?"
Minseok beamed at the fact that he just met a foreigner. "Nice to meet you too! If you need something you can talk to me."
"Sure," Luhan scratched the back of his neck, "so what should I call you? You look younger than me."
"Are you sure?" Minseok laughs, his laughter rings like fresh bells in Luhan's favorite coffee shop back in his hometown. "You don't look that old yourself. I'm twenty-two."
Luhan's eyes widened. "We're the same age?!"
Minseok blinked at him, and laughed that sweet laugh of him again. "See, we are not that old. Anyway, it's convenient because we can call each other's name and no need to use honorifics."
Luhan nods, renewed excitement bubbling on his chest. He had finally made a friend, he seemed to be a good person, and he looked incredibly cute for someone their age.
"Should we go together, then?"
Luhan smiled at Minseok, "Sure."
Years later, Minseok and Luhan debuted at the same unit of global boy group called EXO-M, targeting China's market for their promotion. Minseok was struggling to learn Chinese in short span of time, but Luhan never left his side, thankfully. Luhan learned a lot from Minseok during the harsh training time in Korea, so he felt related to Minseok's situation. They often stayed behind the other members to practice Chinese's basic vocabulary and Luhan taught Minseok how to please the crowd using words.
"This is hard," Minseok sighed, "I just can't digest everything in one go. What am I, an encyclopedia?"
"Don't give up, we still have time."
"Luhan, let's stop this. T-this is hard. This is very hard for me," Minseok pleaded, and Luhan put down the notes on his hand. He shifted closer to Minseok, cupping Minseok's face with his palms.
"Baozi, we've come this far. Are you really gonna stop right now? How many people will be disappointed at you if you stop doing your best when you're not even done trying?"
Minseok blinked his tears away and when Luhan smiled, he couldn't not return the smile. He couldn't help but close his eyes when Luhan leaned down to kiss him - just a brief lips touching for barely three seconds but it left Minseok speechless for much longer.
"Is that how... Chinese people give strength to each other?"
Luhan shrugged. "Maybe, I'm not sure. What I'm one hundred percent sure is, that's how I give strength to the one I like."
Minseok blinked again and cleared his throat, face visibly flushed but he tried to hide it. "Is that a confession? Gosh, you're so not romantic."
Luhan shrugged again with a playful smile hanging on his lips. "If that's how you interpret my words."
(Minseok kissed Luhan - he was inexperienced so the kiss was clumsy and sloppy and too much teeth clanking - before Luhan got pushed into the room he shared with Kris and Minseok hurried back to his shared room with Jongdae. Kris raised an eyebrow at him, sensing something was wrong, but he didn't open his mouth.
"What?" Luhan asked, after giving up the staring battle with Kris.
"Why do you keep touching your lips with your face like that?"
Realizing Kris' words, Luhan quickly dropped his hand he didn't realize was there. "You're so observant, Wu Yifan."
Kris snorted. "We don't need any observer to see how obvious things go between you and Minseok. Listen, I'm not against you guys if you want to go out or something, but please keep it down from the company. We don't need a blow about one of the members dating, let alone he date his fucking bandmate."
Luhan smiles, "We know, of course we know.")
Everything changed drastically in two years.
It was the day when Kris left. He left his bandmates, he left the agency, he left everything they've got so far behind and never looked back. Minseok watched him go with tears brimming on his eyes, trembling hand clutched at the hem of Luhan's sweater.
"Sometimes holding on does more damage than letting go," Luhan says, expressionless. "Kris once told me that. I thought it was really poetic and he was a genius, turned out he only recited a quote he saw on Google. I've never felt so betrayed in my whole life."
Minseok smiles between his choked sobs. "Yifan was really stupid," he finally said when he found his voice again.
Luhan nodded in agreement. He pulled Minseok into a hug, pressing his nose on the top of Minseok's hair. He smelled like a baby, he smelled like Luhan's favorite season, spring. He smelled like forever and Luhan just didn't want to let go.
"Yeah, Yifan was stupid."
"Will you leave me like he did?"
Luhan didn't immediately answer. Minseok tugged harder on his sweater, demanding an answer.
"I don't know, Minseok. People come and go, and things change. Everything changes. I can't promise you anything."
"That means you might go, someday," Minseok mused.
Luhan sighed. "Promise me, when I did, let me go instead of hold on to me."
Minseok didn't reply.
Luhan left the group after they finished their world tour, leaving Minseok all alone. Without a warning, without preparation, he just left. And Minseok had to do what he'd promised Luhan, albeit nonverbally, to let him go instead of holding on.
There's nothing left to hold on, actually. Luhan brought the pieces he laid on Minseok with him when he cleared his stuffs, not leaving a single one behind. Luhan was pulling back all the memories they had for years being together, not giving Minseok a space to mourn over his departure.
Minseok thought, it was the cruelest thing Luhan could ever do to him. He didn't hold a grudge against Luhan who broke off their relationship just a few hours before his flight, he didn't cry when Luhan kissed him for the last time, he didn't answer when the other members asked What are we going to do now, hyung? He felt dry on his mouth, numb all over his body.
He couldn't believe Luhan just walked away from his life, and he had to keep living in a world where Luhan wasn't the part of the group anymore. He wasn't sure that kind of world actually existed.
Luhan took everything with him, but he left something that supposed to be his: Minseok's heart.
The day Luhan left the group, Minseok's heart broke.
They find themselves still in each other's arms when Minseok is thirty-one and dancing and singing on stage isn't as thrilling as when he was on his twenties, so Minseok prefers to be alone when he doesn't have to practice. They meet at a coffee shop in Seoul, the one Minseok and Luhan frequently visited back when everything was right on its place. Luhan, still looks as gorgeous as ever, smiles wide and bright Minseok's so sure he can replace the sun.
On the other hand, Minseok feels like... well, some ordinary guy.
"It's been so long," Luhan sits across Minseok with a cup of iced americano on his hand. "You changed your number, huh?"
"Yeah," Minseok answers. "I changed my phone and the new number came with it."
"You should've told me," Luhan sulks. "For years I wondered what should I do to get a hold of you again, and I had no idea how to contact you."
"You could've asked the other members, or the manager, he hasn't changed his number." Minseok looks up at Luhan, "You didn't try hard enough, Luhan."
Luhan leans back, sighing loudly. "You're right, I'm not trying hard enough. Sorry. It's just- I don't want to make things awkward with the other members, and rumors fly easily between me and the group. I don't want to drag you guys into trouble."
Minseok takes a deep breath. "So, it's purely a coincidence that we meet here?"
"Of course, you're not accusing me for stalking you, are you? Come on, Minseok. You know who I am, will I really have the time to stalk my ex-bandmate?" Luhan raises an eyebrow, Minseok knows he's not serious. "But I missed you, I really do. I missed you so much."
Luhan is always honest with his feeling, always telling what he feels he should tell the other party without any single hint of hesitation. It always surprises Minseok how transparent Luhan's heart is, everyone can easily peek into and finds the pure, raw emotions lying there. Luhan is not very good at delivering speech to express his feeling, but at least he always gets right to the point.
"Do you miss me, too?"
Minseok finds Luhan's eyes, brown and bright, offering Minseok utter comfort just the way they did six years ago when Minseok first saw them. Minseok missed them, missed everything Luhan, and words are just impossible to picture all the emotions he suppressed since Luhan left. Luhan seems to understand Minseok too well because he takes Minseok's hand and squeezes it gently.
"We have all day," whispers Luhan. "To... talk, to apologize and to forgive, to see if we still have the things we had six years ago when I, we, decided to fall in love."
"Selfish jerk."
Minseok squeezes back Luhan's hand, and nods.
It's really annoying how Minseok still can't hate Luhan even after six years has passed. How his kisses are still as dangerous and intoxicating, how his touches pull Minseok to another dimension and he lets himself get lost, lost, lost.
But this time, Luhan doesn't leave him. He stays there, patiently kissing and touching and caressing and Minseok doesn't feel like himself anymore. He remembers this, his brain shamelessly replaying the sensation when Luhan touched him years ago and how all of them feel exactly the same. Luhan doesn't change, so does he. For a short moment, Minseok thinks maybe, just maybe, they're meant to be in each other's arms the way they found each other six years ago.
The first contact of bare skins sparks and electricity jolts them down their spines, and when they become one, they are aflame.
"So, why didn't you contact me first after I left?"
"Why should I?"
Luhan rolls his eyes. "I thought you said you didn't hold a grudge against me, according to your story."
Minseok shrugs, spreading blueberry jam on his bread without looking at Luhan. "I didn't say I wasn't angry at you for leaving me just like that. It's a normal reaction for someone after his lover got his heart broken."
"Minseok," Luhan whines. Minseok laughs, the score is settled now.
"I really was angry at you, but I never once stopped loving you. Sometimes I really hate that part, it's just so unfair."
"And now after I've found you, I'll have to leave you again," Luhan mumbles. "I know, it's so unfair. And honestly if you're going to hate me for the rest of your life, I won't blame you. I never once stopped loving you too, even for a milisecond. And I know that makes it even unfair for you, but-"
"Ssshh, love, I understand," Minseok puts his bread down and reaches out to intertwine his fingers with Luhan's. "That's okay, no matter how far we go, we'll always find a way to get back together. It's always been like that since our first meeting, hasn't it?"
Luhan nods weakly, but he's smiling. "I'll see you on my vacation after I finished promoting my movie. Can i kidnap you to somewhere only we know?"
"Is it kidnapping if I consented?" Minseok laughs, "Sure, I'd love that."
Luhan doesn't let go of Minseok's hand, and Minseok doesn't seem to mind. "Okay, that does sound like a plan."
