not something (but everything)

There’s something unexplainable in the way Sungjoo looks at Yixuan, almost every single time when he does. Of course, Yixuan is charming and all; the members would agree to it, but Sungjoo has this very weird side on him whenever the Chinese leader is around.

Wenhan knows Sungjoo is absolutely, three hundred percent, uncontested and undeniably in love with their eldest member, but surprisingly both of them still play dumb and dumber, and to be honest, it drives him crazy. He’s not sure which one of them is more oblivious, but judging from the situation, it’s probably Yixuan. He’s too busy taking care of others-Sungjoo included-so it’s acceptable if Yixuan doesn’t realize how Sungjoo looks at him two minutes longer than he should.

(Because Yixuan will just look back at him and smile; sometimes with a pat on his shoulder or a gentle stroke on his hair.)

But Wenhan knows the state is getting out of control when one day, Seungyoun asks him in a very serious face, “Ge, when did Sungjoo hyung take another Mandarin class?”

Wenhan frowns. “But he didn’t?” he asks back, confused. He knows well when the two Koreans will take their Mandarin class with someone from Yuehua because he and Yixuan are usually there to help with the material. And currently they are busy with Korea promotion, so there’d be no time to learn about language.

“Oh, I see. I guess his Chinese has gotten a lot better, huh?”

Wenhan’s frown gets deeper. “I don’t think so?” he asks again. The last time Sungjoo used his Chinese to order food, he messed up the names and they had to pay twice because they couldn’t eat what Sungjoo had ordered, so they ordered another set. And it happened only three days ago. “Seungyoun, what’s wrong?”

Seungyoun points out to the couch, where Yixuan talks vigorously to Sungjoo who listens to him patiently without even blinking. The elder talks in Chinese, and if he was a car his speaking rate would be around 100km/h. Even Wenhan can’t hear the words properly, but Sungjoo has that understanding expression on his face-even nodding several times when Yixuan pauses to take a breath.

“If his Chinese hasn’t gotten better, how could he understand all the words Yixuan-ge said to him? They were high level Mandarin, weren’t they, ge?”

Yibo shows up behind Wenhan’s shoulder and steals his words before the eldest among the three can reply. “Sungjoo hyung is just there for Yixuan-ge, but not understanding what he’s been said on the whole conversation. Isn’t it, Wenhan-ge?”

Wenhan nods, chuckling. “Pretty much true. Thanks for the explanation, Yibo.”

Seungyoun apparently still finds this does not make sense. “Yes, okay, I know Sungjoo hyung has been acting very weird in front of Yixuan-ge lately but, the point is-”

Wenhan covers Seungyoun’s mouth with his palm before he lets out any more complaints. “Ssshh, love knows none of those, Sweetie. He’s just very much in love right now, so let him be.”

Wenhan and Sungjoo are lying on Wenhan’s bed, looking at polaroid photos they took during a photoshoot in Haeundae.

“Hang this on the fridge door,” Wenhan hands Sungjoo a photo and Sungjoo cackles at it. The picture was taken by Wenhan, only Sungjoo and Yixuan were posed for the camera. Yibo and Seungyoun were bickering about something at behind, but somehow, Wenhan made them into the picture as well. Their expressions were comically identic, a really contrast combination with the hyungs in the front.

“They will murder us,” Sungjoo says after his laughter goes down, hands continue scrambling on the bed. “Ah, this one is nice. Can I keep this?”

Wenhan peeks in to the picture on Sungjoo’s hand and laughs. “You were the one who took that picture of Yixuan-ge, right? Man, be more subtle. You’re scaring the kids, you know.”

“They just don’t understand how love works,” Sungjoo says, face all bright and his eyes glint with happiness Wenhan can’t really explain. “Hey, give me the marker,” he nudges on Wenhan’s side, gesturing to a marker on the nightstand.

Wenhan looks away when he sees Sungjoo starts drawing ugly hearts on the polaroids.

Wenhan is on his bed again two nights later, now with Seungyoun and Yibo messily lying on his stomach and leg. They are looking at the same polaroids he saw with Sungjoo, but the pictures are a bit blurry from Sungjoo’s handwrites and drawings.

“ 넌 나의 전부야,” Seungyoun reads a caption, “Huh? Did he mean it for someone?”

“What does it mean?” Yibo asks.

“It means you’re my everything.” Wenhan answers for him. “If you see the caption is on a photo where Yixuan-ge was there, then yes, he did mean it for a certain someone.”

Seungyoun laughs, mumbles a very subtle, hyung, and looking for another photo.

“Oh my God, Sungjoo hyung drew hearts on my eyes,” Seungyoun says, sounds depressed. “This was my favorite and I was going to put it in my wallet.”

Yibo snorts a laugh. “You’re lucky. He used all empty space on my picture to write something in Korean I can’t even understand, I can only read my name. It’s like he was writing our winning speech, but why did he do that in my picture?”

“Maybe he wanted to write you a letter, he was being so melancholy lately.” Seungyoun replies, his hand reaches out for another photo with Sungjoo’s handwriting on it. “Hey, this picture is funny. We were all looking at the sky for dramatic effect, but Sungjoo hyung was looking at Yixuan-ge-wait, what?”

Yibo quickly gets up and snatches the picture from Seungyoun’s hand. It’s true, four of them were looking at the sky (Yibo remembered Yixuan was seeing an airplane or something, so he was the one who initiated the pose) but Sungjoo wasn’t looking at the same direction with them. He was clearly looking at somewhere else: Yixuan’s face.

“The thing he wrote… can you read it, ge?” Yibo hands the picture to Wenhan. Wenhan tilts it to a better angle and starts reading.

“He asked us to look at the sky, but now I’m looking at my universe.”

Silent. Yibo and Seungyoun are looking at each other, and then looking at Wenhan, and both of them start laughing their ass off. Wenhan grimaces, Sungjoo is so, so, so cheesy, but with the amount of crush he has on Yixuan, his sentence should be worth it.

“Sungjoo hyung is such a hopeless romantic,” Yibo comments, blinking his tears away from too much giggling. Seungyoun nods in agreement, he’s still half dead after laughing so hard.

Wenhan nods, staring wisely at the younger. “He is, but as I told you before, kids. He’s just very, very much in love.”
