The Impact Factor of a journal is like penis or breast size: It doesn't always matter, but it's a pretty good indicator of how many people are interested in looking at it, how many people have been on it, and how many have mentioned it during other encounters; plus you get more respect if you're associated with a larger number, and some people have a minimum below which they aren't interested.
