No to War!_ Cliff Notes Style

Mar 17, 2003 18:39

Ah, uhm, heh, this is kinda embarrassing_ I was going to make the below entry private because it was just a boring week recap.. so bear (bare?) with me one more time ;-)

Top 5 reasons why I'm against war.

Me: Who put Saddam Hussein in power in the first place? and Bin Laden? and Pinochet in Chile?
Steven: The U.S...
Me: Then don't you think it's very unfair of us to put these people in power for our own interests, then bomb them when we aren't satisfied?
Steven: Well, but Iraq broke the treaty.. gased its own people... Kuwait... blah blah.
Me: Yes, I agree Hussein is a tyrant. And then again there are all these other tyrannies in the world.. Such as Saudi Arabia..

Hmm. Steven himself informed me that the reason why the deadline is March 17 is because there will be a new moon, making it easier to attack Iraq with our high tech night vision goggles.

1. No, being against the war doesn't mean I'm for Hussein or inactivity. But the fact that Iraq is a tyranny doesn't constitute grounds for preemptive war. There are many tyrannies in the world, some kept in power by the United States. Saudi Arabia is only one example.

2. "Weapons of mass destruction." Who's sick of that term? Hmm, oh no, we are in danger because Iraq may be developping a nuclear weapon. It doesn't matter really that we have 100 of those weapons at home, or that Pakistan has them along with India, Israel... not to mention this country has also used them with deadly consequences to millions of people.

3. I'll make this one brief. WAR. KILLS. INNOCENT. PEOPLE. War will not make the Iraquis have better relations with the US. It really would make them more angry and determined, when you see the "justifications" for this war.

4. OIL. There is no doubt that the US would get considerably richer if it defeats Iraq. Without a change of the regime, the USA wouldnt have control over the oil ressources of Iraq, while European and Russian oil companies have made contracts with the Iraq years ago.

5. One word: Bush. We have a MORON ruling this friggin' country. I won't be surprised if he mistakes Iran for Iraq. Well, stupid presidents do put politics in easy terms for people to understand I guess: "Terrorrists = Evil. US = Good. Goal = Defeat Terrorrists. Let's terrorrise them end eeevviiill!!"

Yeah. That's roughly why for those who were wondering. It's simply.. not justified. There will be a protest tomorrow at noon in downtown Portland.

Some things are just more important than school.
