Battle between the Soul Reapers and the hollows rages on at Karakura-chou.
In the midst of chaos, Deceptive Hollow asks Iruma what to do next. Iruma cut the hollow with Battou.
It's raining. Ichigo mindlessly stands on the ground where Rukia died, completely broken and unable to join the battle. Byakuya shows up, continuing his mission to investigate the Red Moon. Ichigo asks Byakuya why Byakuya is not blaming him for his sister's death, why he is so unmoved by her death. Ichigo feels he has no right to join the battle, since he was trusted to take care of Iruma while Rukia's force field lasts but failed. He betrayed her trust. Byakuya tells Ichigo, that blaming Ichigo does not bring Rukia, a proud the Soul Reaper, back to life. Byakuya asks Ichigo how he can not sense the Rukia in his heart.
Then, Byakuya leaves Ichigo. Ichigo stands alone, thinking.
Ichigo finds Rukia in his heart, and decide to do what he can do. Then, the mysterious hollow show up once again, grabs Ichigo and disappears.
Hitsugaya is frustrated. The Reiatsu from the Red Moon is increasing, but he has no information. As Hitsugata gets restless, an emergency message from Squad Six arrives. Now the Red Moon is melting. The Liquefied moon is forcefully paving a passageway to Hueco Mundo, using the blood of the Soul Reapers. It is a matter of time before the passage reaches the Soul Society, merging the both world. If the worlds merge, both worlds will collapse. Hitsugaya orders whole Squad Ten to follow him to the moon, but Iruma appears to get in his way. Iruma even summons Menos Grandes. The Hollows starts piling up on Hitsugaya, making him a good target for Menos Grandes' cero.
As the Menos Grandes fire cero at Hitsugaya, Ukitake jumps in and shoots back cero with Sougyo no Kotowari. Kyouraku appears too, and captures Iruma. Ukitake informs Hitsugaya that all of other squads and captains are dispatched to the Red Moon to stop it. Ukitake urges Hitsugaya to join them, for they will take care of Iruma.
After Hitsugaya left, Kyouraku trys to make Iruma talk about how to stop the moon, but Iruma breaks free.
Iruma is warned that if he keeps resisting, he has to be killed. Of course, Iruma has no will to surrender, so Kyouraku and Ukitake mercilessly finish him off.
However, the body turned out to be the Deceptive Hollow's. Kyouraku and Ukitake are stunned; since they choose to fight two against one so Iruma won't have a chance to switch with dummy. The Iruma they fought was a dummy from the start. Noticing that the swarm of hollows is decoy, they try to speculate where real Iruma is, and what he is trying to do.
About the same time, Iruma enters SS, through Sengaimon. Since he entered there with human body, he starts to weaken. Yet, he thinks the blood of the Soul Reapers he has changed his body to the body close to the Soul Reaper's enough to last while boring a hole from the SS side, the last push needed to complete the blood paved passage.
As Iruma prepare a blow, Renji come dashing toward him. Renji is rejoiced to see him again. He thought he is extremely unlucky for his injury kept him from being deployed to human world for the big showdown, but his bad luck turned out to be a good luck. Renji is also extremely mad for Iruma for being cunning enough to use decoy to lure out all of the squad to the Red Moon and Karakura-cho to infiltrate the SS. Swearing he will avenge Rukia's death, he Bankai and almost gets Iruma.
Yet, the injury from their previous encounter starts hurting, costing Renji's concentration. Grasping the chance, Iruma breaks Renji's bankai. Iruma is ready to feed Renji to Battou when Ichigo saves Renji. Ichigo was guided by the mysterious hollow to the SS, to Iruma. Even though Renji refuses to back off, the next blow from Iruma disables him, forcing him to retreat. Iruma is angry that Ichigo is still getting in his way, but Ichigo stands strong.
<"Kokoro no Kizuna" Ichigo and Iruma's duet: The song's theme is about protecting someone important. They sing about loss of daily life that they thought it would last forever and feeling lost and powerless, deepening bond, taking "you" to the future. >
Iruma grew up in the orphanage. Just like Ichigo, he had very strong Reikan, and can see and talk to the ghosts. Because of that, he could not make any friend because everyone gets scared of him. He was very lonely until Haruka came into his life. She was not afraid of him. As they grew up, they fall into love, but the fire took the life of Haruka. Iruma was not at the orphanage when the fire broke out, but the fire was still burning when he arrived. Told that Haruka is left in the building, he jumped into the fire to rescue her, but all he found was her badly burned body. Iruma thought his ability to talk to the deceased would allow him to exchange the last words with Haruka, but he could not find Haruka anywhere. As he turns desperate, Battou whispered to him. It whispered that the Haruka's soul was captured at the Soul Society, just like many other deceased. That only way for a living man to reach the Soul Society is to make a passage with the Soul Reaper's blood. Confirmed that his power was given to him for this purpose and determined to free Haruka's soul, he starts hunting the Soul Reapers.
Ichigo tries to reason with Iruma by telling Battou is deceiving him into rampage. Iruma tells Ichigo he knows what he is doing. All Iruma wants to do is to free Haruka's soul from the Soul Society and he does not care the power he is using is evil or not.
Struggle between Ichigo and Iruma continue. A mysterious hollow appears again and sides with Ichigo. More than angry at endless interference, Iruma assault the hollow as well. The hollow fell and changes into Haruka. Haruka was talking to Iruma after her death, but Iruma's grief was too deep and had deafened him. Worried so much, Haruka could not go to the SS, turned into a hollow. When she found out that a hollow would lose all the reason, she resisted. She managed to keep her humanity, but at the cost of her words. That is why Iruma could not hear or found her. Haruka begs Iruma to stop his rampage, because it means nothing for both of them and dies.
Iruma, completely losing his mind, merges him, Haruka and Battou. Ichigo keeps fighting, but has a little chance against a monster Iruma has become. Iruma challenges Ichigo to use his hollow power, but Ichigo refuses. As Ichigo smashed down again and again, the petals of cherry flowers start showering. Byakuya shows up, and without hesitation, he bankai and defeat Iruma. Iruma and Battou are separated and Battou is destroyed. The passageway of blood breaks down, freeing all soul reapers' blood.
Iruma is down, but not dead. He is screaming in pain. Byakuya tells Ichigo that without the power of Battou, Iruma's body, a mixture of a human and a hollow, is collapsing, and it is what becomes of a man engulfed by power.
Byakuya tries to finish Iruma off as madden iruma charges toward him. Ichigo hears Haruka's pleading and stop Byakuya. Ichigo is searching something inside of Iruma and use Tensa Zangetsu to cut it out from Iruma. Next moment, Ichigo and Iruma found themselves at the ruin. Iruma regains his sanity but finds out Haruka is gone from his body. Haruka was asking Ichigo to cut her, a hollow, out of Iruma's body. Iruma is completely devastated, because he would rather die in pain than separated from Haruka. Yet, Haruka appears in front of him again. At last, they have a chance to talk for the last time.
Ichigo visits the place of Rukia's death with Sode no Shirayuki. Ichigo talks to Rukia
Ichigo: I was trying to tell you this all the time. I know it's long overdue. But I am now telling you thank you.
Rukia: Don't worry. What I've done is not much.
Ichigo: Yea, I can hear your voice in my WHAT?????!!!!!
Ichigo think that is Rukia in his heart, but when he turns to his side, he sees Rukia and jumps up.
Rukia: What do you think you are? A Romanticist?
Yes, it is Rukia, revived along with the rest of Battou victims. She comes to get her sword from Ichigo. Stunned, but Ichigo gives back Sode no Shirayuki to Rukia.
While investigating the Red Moon, Byakuya noticed that the bodies of the Battou victims have lost all of their blood, but remained intact. Sensing that there are still some chances left to save the victims, Byakuya did everything to resurrect them - and he succeeded. Rukia thanks Byakuya. Then, Rukia thanks Ichigo.
Rukia: Thank you for crying over my death. Having someone crying over my death means I have someone to leave my heart to. It is really relieving to have someone like that.
Ichigo: I never want to see that happen again. I am not here to hear your will.
