It is the first day of fall registration at NYU. The phones, they ring like mad. The silly students receive answers to their questions, and they say, "Thank you, ma'am." Thus do they make me feel wrinkiled and crone-like. Ma'am - fuck that.
Also, network services had the brilliant idea of changing our log-on procedure on one of the busiest days of the year. And the new procedure did not work on my computer. We had to get the special network guru to come fix this for me. She said, "I have taken Novell off your computer; you will never have to worry about it again." And though everything was clearly the fault of the network set-up on my computer, this makes it sound as if I somehow couldn't handle Novell while everyone else in my office is more competent.
Also, yesterday I was informed that I smell like a swamp monkey. I called my mother, for mothers cannot lie to you about such things, asked, "Mom, is it true that I smell like a swamp monkey?" She replied, "Well...sort of, yes."
So today I am a geriatric, techno-gimp swamp monkey. My bombastic facade is shaken, not to mention the state of my actual self-esteem. And I am in this complex, commingled-laughing-crying frame of mind.
