Detroit, the former motor city, and new home of Crazy Insane Sports Fans

I've had the priviledge of watching sporting events all over North America, including watching the Pistons & Red Wings play at home. But the only two places I felt really uncomfortable was at the Palace and Joe Louis Arena. It's great that Detroit fans are very passionate about their teams, but instead of cheering their teams on, they seem to enjoy jeering the other teams instead. Last year around this time I watched a Pistons vs Lakers game and it was at the height of the Kobe Bryant scandal. Never had I heard so many curses along with one person's name in my life. Looking around to see if there were any children around to see this insanity, was relived, yet boggled by the fact that there were no children anywhere. The biggest cheers of the night were not reserved for the blowout win of the Pistons, but for the Smooch Cam when it centered over Shaq and Kobe. I know it's all in good fun and all, but c'mon does the arena have to really get the crazed fans jeering even more?

I honestly believe this has alot to do with the amount of alcohol consumed at the games. How else could you explain countless number of people (myself included) slipping on stairs from all the beer that is dumped on the ground. I am not surprised that in incident like this occured in Detroit. For the fan who threw the beer on Artest AFTER the melee had died down a little bit, WHAT IF somebody, decided to show up at your workplace and decide to throw a cup of backwashed beer in your face, would you just easily let it slide and walk away and smile? Or wouldn't you want to just go and beat the living daylights out of that person. Just because you are a devoted fan of your team DOES NOT give you a priviledge of humiliating another person by throwing your stale beer at them. The message that comes across is that it's ok for me to throw beer and other objects at players who get a little cocky and arrogant, and if I get punched in the face once or twice and the player will be the one getting punished, heck, I should really think about doing it all the time. I don't care if it means that a worked up NBA player will want to make sure their pride is not damaged and I might get a black eye, because I'm going to get away with it with no reprocussions. Of course, this is the message that the NBA wants to get across to the next generation of fans. I hope that the fans that ran onto the court and the ones responsible for pelting the Pacers get punished equally. Furthermore, at the end of the forth quarter, why is there so much beer leftover for fans to chuck anyways? The Pistons are responsible for serving alcohol to its patrons, and should cut off people if they are drinking too much. Not having finished your beer by the Fourth Quarter = drinking too much. But of course, the Pistons will be too worried about lost concession sales to even think about displeasing their fans, and making sure that their own employees get to work in a safe environment, to even change any rules or punish their fans. And of course, this cycle will start again when The Pacers come back to Detroit in March. I sure love this game.

BTW how can so many people smuggle in so many Octipi into Joe Louis Arena when I couldn't even bring
a) My Nailclipper Keychain in
and
b) A Tiny Bottle of UNOPENED water?
I must've given it away when they noticed that I didn't have an Octipus stuffed down my pants.
