i'm glad strange things keep happening to me this summer, and i'm glad to be able to remember them. for those of you who haven't seen me in a while, i've developed this new wild, sort of surly laugh that i must say i'm slightly proud of. and i laugh all the time now, at the smallest things. i was thinking about it, and i would say that has been the best part about my summer so far. also, i've discovered that i really really like all of my friends here, which gives me a feeling of comfort that i have not been so familiar with in the past. of course, many of you are scattered or will be soon throughout this broad-backed country of ours, as well as other places so far away from sarasota, florida. it's a strange feeling, this one. i'm trying to ensure that missing my friends is not flanked by petty jealousy or hurt feelings, but rather is lined with the sort of happiness that comes with knowing that one's friends are at least ok and hopefully doing well. i guess my point is that i miss some of you an awful lot, even some of you who are still here.
i don't mean for these posts to be informative or really all that exciting. think of them as little presents for my friends of my memories of late. the neatest thing i've seen all summer has been this multi-colored organ laid on its side in front of a dilapidated housing project in bradenton. at some point it fell over right next to a rather small tree that, despite its size, like a good friend shades it completely. i want to return there for a picture shoot, but i'm afraid the residents will remember me as "that girl from the housing authority" and will run me out of the neighborhood for taking pictures of their belongings. i don't know, though. with neat stuff i like that, i really feel like it should belong to everyone.
i had a really fun fourth of july. lakeland is still a good place thanks to my friends there. i was glad to be there for the roman candle war. it made me feel like less of a bitter old woman to see mike get hit in the butt with a colorful, sparkly explosion with nothing to defend himself except the lid of a garbage can. thanks y'all.
oh, and i'm going to san francisco on july 19th. this is actually kinda important, because i really don't have anywhere to stay. seriously, if someone could point me in a useful direction, i'd really appreciate it. also, if you're interested in traveling with me, i'd be into it. i'm going to attend the intersex task force meeting there on the 20th, which marks a really pivotal, exciting day for the intersex movement, since it is in response to legal/governmental action on behalf of intersexed folks regarding the problems surrounding sex reassignment surgery during infancy. i've already made friends with some really neat people for my thesis, one of whom even lives in tampa!
sarah sky, i haven't forgot about you. i've been trying to call you on your cell phone, but haven't managed to catch ya. i'll try harder. <3
let's all go to man voyage's show on friday night (july 9) at ciera g.'s house. if you come, i'll dance with you if you want.
drop me a line, folks. we can be pen pals. xoxo
