Since my last update my life has consisted of Empire Books and News. There have been a few more things on the side such as school, but other than that most of my time is spent in 30 Pullman Square.
It's been alright I suppose. You wouldn't think working at a bookstore would be that hard, but it is. It is. Cause you see some books are heavy, some books are too big for the shelves, and well frankly there are too many of them. Thousands and THOUSANDS of them. It was hard stocking books when the store wasn't open but now we're opened and we can't do very much and the books are totally not in order. So when someone asks me where a book is I usually can't tell them.
But I know most people are wanting to check out the new bookstore so here are some tips to be a good customer and so I will not curse you in my head...or aloud.
1. When asking if we have a book, know the title and or the author. Some people come in and ask about "Yeah I'm looking for that book...oh what's it called...you know that book." Well more than likely I don't know what you're talking about, but if you know the title and or author I could find it a lot more easily.
2. If you pick up a book and go to some other area of the store to look at it PLEASE PUT IT BACK WHERE YOU GOT IT! Cause you see the books are in disorder as it is but when you put Paris Hilton's autobigraphy in the Religious Section it makes things a lot harder to organize. Remember people do actually have to go around picking out those books and putting them back.
3. Don't cut things out of books or write things on them. I've seen this already and we've only been open like 5 days. The first 2 hours we were open someone wrote on a book about lesbian parents and tonight I found some had cut off the front of a magazine.
4. Throw away your coffee cup. I can't tell you how many half full and empty coffee cups I have seen among the books. Some people have found some creative places to stick them.
5. Don't take off the plastic wrap. If you want to look at it bring it to an employee because when you take off the plastic you've also taken off the bar code so how are we supposed to ring it up?
6. Don't tell me the books aren't in order. I know. I know.
And there are some more things I'm sure that will develop as I work there longer but for now if you go by those rules you'll be considered a good customer.
Well now I have to study a bit more for my last final. Yay.
