I don't know how long it's here for, but I recommend visiting the copy of the Vietnam Memorial Wall that is on tour at Acacia cemetery in Lake Forest Park. The structure itself is impactful and no less is feeling the energy from the visitors in my age group and above, those who lost brothers, sons, daughters, lovers, etc... I spent a long time there this afternoon remembering the monumental service provided by all those soldiers and military staff. At the time, I helped boyfriends with their 4F and Conscientious Objector statuses, which I would do again, but older now, I also see the other side. Laurie's son hit US soil yesterday after his tour of Iraq. He is safe physically, but I wonder about the psychological sacrifice he may have made for his service.
I appreciate the military more than I ever thought I would.
