I tried to write a nice review when Iron Man 3 opened here in Brazil, last Friday. But... well. I've watched it twice and can't deal with my feels yet. My brain is basically "EEEEEEEEEEEEE SO AWESOME EEEEEEE". I'll just put some random commentary under the cut, it's the best I can do.
Oh, and this cutie arrived last week, too. Great timing! :D
I really liked the movie. Really. The twists, the characters, the tech? Mark 42 was such an expressive armor, lol.
I was worried this one would come out bad. You know, last of the trilogy, new director, the trailers hinting they went completely Dark Knight and forgot about the humor... well, I can say I'm glad the trailers were so misleading. xD
I liked the humorous moments, much more than IM2. And the plot! It was great. They took the Extremis issues, threw them out the window, wrote something completely different and, as a bonus, made the Mandarin a joke. THAT was unexpected. And a relief. The Mandarin as he is the comics would be a little... insensible, I guess? That worked pretty well in the movieverse.
Aldrich. Oh my God, what was Aldrich. A completely random character that became the Big Bad/Boss of Mandarin/Also AIM. I had zero expectations of him, was actually pissed the ads were showing him more than Maya and I don't even like Maya but well, he pulled it off. I salute Guy Pearce.
Rhodey having a lot of screen time and being awesome made my happy! Now I only hope somewhere off screen they take that paint off War Machine. Siege ruined the Iron Patriot armor for me. Shudder.
Pepper. The few minutes where she put on the armor were great enough but then EXTREMIS SUPERPOWERS SAVING TONY'S ASS KILLING THE BAD GUY. So refreshing seeing the damsel in distress trope ending like that! At that moment I was already finding it weird that Tony wouldn't get Extremis as in the comics, it didn't even occur to me (anyone, I guess) that Pepper would. Basically, two hours of surprises.
I won't even talk about RDJ, really, what can I say about him? This man. <3
Loved Tony's characterization, how he managed to be equally badass and vulnerable. The way they dealt with the aftermath of New York was nice, and uncomfortably realistic (to the point where I wanted to slap every kid in this movie. You don't put your face close to someone having an anxiety attack, let the man BREATHE. Ugh. Kids.) So, yeah. Can't say much about Tony. Favorite character 4ever.
But I'll miss the arc reactor! I guess they hinted he could operate his heart because he fixed the Extremis and now he has it (He said "why stop there"). I don't know how to feel about it.
Oh, and the Civil War shout out with Happy? Asshole move. Congratulations to everyone involved.
