First up, photos from a trip I took to Healesville Animal Sanctuary a few weeks ago. It's a really neat place; they're dedicated to nursing injured animals back to health, and teaching them how to live in the wild again.
Of course, you can wander around and see the animals XD So I had to go. They don't keep them in cages, but huge areas where they can run around and whatnot.
Dingo!
ZOMG so cute.
Rainbow lorakeets; they're actually really common in Australia, especially in this kind of quantity. But I had to include a picture anyway XD
An Ibis! I've never actually seen one of these in real life, so I was a little excited >>
See this photo right here? This is my own personal version of Hell. SURROUNDED BY CHILDREN. It was so bad. I didn't even realize until I turned around. And you can bet there was flailing and cursing once I realized.
That was one cool kangaroo, yo. He was the pimp master of the lot.
Koalas. Giant teddy bears that hang around in trees, and are so, SO adorable.
EMU.
Tasmanian Devils may be tiny, but they will cut a bitch.
I don't even know why I'm including this photo, but that's my mum. And me with the bright red hair. That wasn't at Healesville, but actually during the Melbourne Royal Show a few days later, just after we got off a roller coaster. Which is probably why I'm grinning like an adrenaline-fueled loon.
Okay, so the trip to Hanging Rock was pretty cool, but of course the main event was Hanging Rock itself. It's an area that I've heard people actually refer to as the Australian Bermuda Triangle. Between Hanging Rock and Mt. Macedon, there's all these ghost stories about missing people and so on.
BUT, Hanging Rock actually used to be a very important spiritual site to the Aborigine people - specifically the Wurundjeri tribe, and they originally called it Geebor.
So, important spiritual sight AND creepy ghost stories? I'm so there.
But first - a random kangaroo! Like, out in the wild. Well, in a nearby field - but it was wild! So I had to approach it >> While, you know, staying away from the back legs. Kangaroos CAN actually kill a full grown man with one kick to the chest.
Approaching the foot of Hanging Rock - and it's so freaking misty. Mist breeds creepiness.
As you can see. We couldn't actually see more than 30 feet ahead of us at all times, really.
More mist!
Thankfully it cleared up once we got higher >> Those rocks you can see in the background are the very bottom formations of Hanging Rock!
The place was full of things like this. Trees burnt from the inside, but... staying intact on the outside o_O There may be some scientific explanation for that, but I don't know it. I just know it was cool.
Inside the dead tree, looking up. Yeah, I can't resist. If something looks creepy I have to go touch it and do everything like that.
Yeah, okay. Obligatory picture of my ass hanging out on the rocks...
Right before I took a nap! (Okay, I didn't really. But that rock was comfortable as hell.)
A view from the top.
Huh. There's... a tree growing right out of the rock. Neat! :D
I insisted on climbing into as many crevisses as I could find - this one had a neat view back to the outside.
