Those wacky sims! To become a hall of famer, he has to quit his job as hall of famer... I've never seen that before, but somehow I am not surprised. I wonder if getting demoted and promoted would have done the trick?
I don't think "sambo" means the same in English as in the Nordic languages - it is mostly used as a racial slur, similar to "nigger", as far as I have seen. I would not mind if we could coonvert the British and Americans on this matter though... I am tempted to try to introduce it in its Scandinavian meaning in my Near Future stories, but worried that automatic filters may make my updates unavailable for some people.
About the "sambo" word, I'm fully aware that it doesn't mean the same, but since the English isn't adequate in that area I'm introducing the word with the Scandinavian meaning :)
About the Hall of Famer stuff - didn't cross my mind to let him be demoted. Maybe, or rather probably, it would have worked. I have used this guy in other stories, always with a different name, but always with the same Career problem.
The uncommon word "cohab" has roughly the same meaning as our "sambo". The other meanings of "cohab" are place names or acronyms, none of which would come to mind while reading about a family. I am not sure if "cohab" has a slightly wider meaning though, more toward "roomie", or if it by default implies an intimate relationship. More research is needed!
Cohab, or cohabitant, is someone who lives with you, and shares utilities. Annoyingly, it can infer any number of meanings. It can be a close friend, or a lover, or even an enemy or member of one's family. Living under the same roof is the nearest explanation I can come to. I'm glad I finally understand the meaning of the word 'sambo', in it's Scandinavian form. It's a very controversial word in England, and considered racist. I knew it couldn't have the same conotations for you, and had sort of come to the conclusion it meant perhaps lover.
Same here. I was disappointed to see that Goopy does not retain his name in another language. =( Oh well, I suppose it will be nice for him to finally get a real name, especially one as nice as Daniel. :)
