[TM: #266] Start Something- for toldfairytales

The lobby was generally quiet, people spending their time in their rooms, out in the city, or in floor common rooms. And really, Mat wouldn’t have been there if the rest of them hadn’t gathered in the main area as a part of the “Leave Your Watermark” moment. Stacy had proposed the idea based on much of Mathis’ antics in the first place, but the idea that they really expected him to put on a mock concert…

Well it was simply beyond him.

“I cannot do this,” he protested in a whine to Natalia, who only laughed and shook her head.

“Tough, you don’t have a choice. You are tonight’s entertainment.”

“I sing very badly,” he warned in all seriousness, hands perched on his hips in a rather prissy manner.

“Too bad you started something by singing so enthusiastically to Stacy and Maria in their rooms the other night. Not my fault you started something buddy.” She beamed at him, before bouncing up to her toes to give him a soft peck on the cheek. “Besides, at least Bob and Colin are doing it with you. So it isn’t like you are alone.”

He groaned, pulling his head away to give her a look as she tugged lightly at his hair. Sure, she thought it was funny, but watch her…she’ll pick like ‘Barbie Girl’ for them to singing, and Mathis would get stuck with the girl part because Bob and Colin would never survive embarrassment. This hardly seemed fair.

“You owe me,” he mouthed to her finally, giving her a quick kiss before Bob and Colin started to tug him along. Stacy was on the ‘stage’ introducing them as the “Water Street Trio”, with everyone laughing as cheering as they stepped up on the couch.

The audience got to pick the songs, giving no warning before the words popped up on the little karaoke screen. That was the deal, they would sing whatever was picked…

“What is that song?” Mathis asked as one of the third floor girls picked one and bounced away with an overly pleased with herself.

Colin peered at the screen before crying out in a mix of ‘dear god’ and ‘I am not’ as he made a circle on the couch, Bob laughing while managing to only turn a little pink. It took Mathis a few moments longer to registered what song title was blinking in front of him, before he too ground a bit and hung his head.

They didn’t get much time to mourn their luck before the music started and they had to grab their mics. They each secretly hoped that the mics wouldn’t work, but that was hoping for too much as the words started to scroll past.

“Yo, I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want,” Mathis started out, ever the fearless when it came to doing things that would go down in the annuals of embarrassment. Bob, leaning against his shoulder, was laughing as he giggled out “So tell me what you want, what you really really want,”

“I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want.” Mat replied again, turning to Colin this time who repeated Bob’s line with more luck than his roommate. But Mathis hopped off the couch, laughing as he tried to hammer out, “I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really really really wanna zigazig ha.”

They managed to get through the song, barely, even attempting to do a bad version of the dance which had already been fairly poor to begin with. But as the song went they giggles and laughs faded away into hamming it up, Mathis striking poses as he sang…

“ If you wanna be my lover, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta, slam, slam, slam, slam,” He grinned before pointing at Nat, “ Slam your body down and wind it all around. Slam your body down and wind it all around. Slam your body down and wind it all around.”
