This is absolutely amazing. So lyrical and everything I would've wanted to say about Castiel's growing despair coupled with his utter insistence that the war must be won, at all costs.

He feels the insistent press of something against the gaping hole in his side. It takes him a moment to realize he can feel it, and then the pain is rushing over him and crashing in a wave that sweeps his feet out from under him and carries his limp body back to sea in the riptide.

Such a beautiful paragraph. I also loved the scene with Castiel vanishing when Dean confronted him, and the sense of loss and bewilderment that accompanied it. Castiel is not a human, but nor is he fully an angel anymore...at least not in the ways he once knew. Now, he feels fear. And that fear is well-conveyed all over this fic.

I really hope you keep writing about Castiel! This is really, really interesting.

Thank you. :) Castiel has always been, in my mind, the most intriguing character, because at least with Sam and Dean they have easy to understand motivations and reasons...Castiel, less so ( ... )

oh. oh, i like this.

"And he opens his mouth; says “There’s a way,” and the sad-looking angel stares at him with desperation and maybe a little bit of hope and the price to pay isn’t an issue anymore."

That's such a great bit right there. It really sums up all the shifty things Cas is up to these days.

<3 it!

Thank you so much!

It's really sad, because all he does, it's all tinged with bits of hopelessness and desperation, especially when he's being shifty.

Next to the dead archangel is one more angel. This one isn’t dead.

Yet.

asdfgh, this is so sad and perfect. I don't know what to say. This is painfully realistic, and the writing is lovely.

That is like, the best compliment ever. I love getting rendered speechless by fics, so knowing mine did that to someone else? Best feeling. :D
Thank you! It seems like painfully realistic is a perfect way to summarize the way most of my fics end up.

Aw, thanks so much! :)

Hehe, yeah, for some reason I just can't see them utterly abandoning him, no matter what.
