He feels the insistent press of something against the gaping hole in his side. It takes him a moment to realize he can feel it, and then the pain is rushing over him and crashing in a wave that sweeps his feet out from under him and carries his limp body back to sea in the riptide.
Such a beautiful paragraph. I also loved the scene with Castiel vanishing when Dean confronted him, and the sense of loss and bewilderment that accompanied it. Castiel is not a human, but nor is he fully an angel anymore...at least not in the ways he once knew. Now, he feels fear. And that fear is well-conveyed all over this fic.
I really hope you keep writing about Castiel! This is really, really interesting.

That's such a great bit right there. It really sums up all the shifty things Cas is up to these days.
<3 it!

It's really sad, because all he does, it's all tinged with bits of hopelessness and desperation, especially when he's being shifty.

asdfgh, this is so sad and perfect. I don't know what to say. This is painfully realistic, and the writing is lovely.

Thank you! It seems like painfully realistic is a perfect way to summarize the way most of my fics end up.

Hehe, yeah, for some reason I just can't see them utterly abandoning him, no matter what.
