SGA - Don't Cry

He wiggled his eyebrows and grinned at her from across the table, and she tried not to laugh. It came out as a low snort and Torren sprayed food everywhere as he burst into baby giggles. The only satisfying thing about it all was the fact that John was right in the line of fire.

“John.” She said sternly. He merely smiled and used his napkin to make sure his face was clean before leaning across the small and kissing Torren’s forehead. Then he turned his eyes to her and grinned.

“See you later,” he whispered, capturing her lips in a quick kiss before leaning back and ruffling Torren’s hair and then striding off. The boy squealed in delight and flailed his arms, uttering a string of indecipherable noises before settling on one he liked.

“Da! Da!” he waved his hand at the place John had been sitting and Teyla smiled sweetly.

“That’s right, that’s da,” she cooed, hugging her son close before leaning down and beginning the process of cleaning up Torren’s mess.

In her bed, she opened her eyes sleepily, blinking as the dreamscape faded into the ceiling of her quarters. She didn’t feel for the empty spot next to her, or glance around the room looking for a crib that wasn’t there. Because she knew she would find neither. Leaning back against the pillow she sighed heavily.

She wanted a child so bad it was like a physical pain in her gut. But she knew she wouldn’t have one. After all, the one man she wanted to be the father of her children was the one man who seemed to see her as little more than a friend.

And suddenly she wasn’t so sure if the pain in her gut was for longing for a child or for longing for something more.
