Hey, all! I've been getting many comments on 23. Many have been concerning Draco's behavior in it.
Don't read on if ya don't want to be spoiled!
In it, Draco, Demelza, and Astoria found the culprit and cured the G kids. Upon returning to 27 Seabreeze Lane, they wondered how they'd stop the mutated Wilde's Virus (aka Wren's Virus) from spreading ever again. Draco declared he'd make sure it wouldn't and locked himself in a room upstairs. From within, he explained that he had a piece of gelatin from the villain's home. (The villain had previously explained she'd passed the virus to the G kids via gelatin.) He declared he was going to eat it, sacrificing himself to prevent the virus from spreading.
Why was Draco so sacrificial and noble? Why couldn't he see that they could just toss the gelatin in the trash or the garbage disposal? Well, it wasn't really about gelatin, or even really stopping the virus.
In Chapter 11, Daisy, Draco's big sister, stealthily murdered seven of her siblings, with Draco as the grand finale. During this, Draco pretty much felt helpless, despite his best efforts. He had to watch his sister and best friend Demelza die. And he had to deal with the awful truth that the murderer was his own sister Daisy.
Obviously it was an immense psychological strain. So now that Draco's got another chance at life, he's going to be so freaking noble and self-sacrificial just because this time he can. This time he can help, make a difference somehow.
He says it himself: "I'm tired of seeing people Iove hurt."
But is it worth it? Demelza and Astoria don't seem to think so.
The resolution awaits in Chapter 24, which should be out next weekend. Bye!
