PUPPPS?

Jun 09, 2010 13:27

I've had hives on the back of my thighs since Sunday night. I previously thought it was caused by a lotion I got from the baby shower that I decided to use, I used it Sunday night & got hives within 2 hours. I then took a shower, went to bed. When I woke up the hives weren't SO bad, but they did persist. I tried the lotion again that night and woke up in the middle of the night with hives on the back of both of my thighs this time, and between them as well. By Tuesday morning I had bug-bite looking red marks all up both legs, plus the swollen hives on the back of my thighs. Tuesday afternoon came and so did more little red itchies all over my lower back/butt. I showered, threw the potential culprit (lotion) in the trash and suffered through the day.

I've now gone about 35 hours without using the lotion, and my hives are in full force, and I'm starting to get some of those little red bumps on my arms now. I thought I could rule out PUPPPS after thinking I had figured out the source (lotion) but I am not so sure now! I only applied the lotion to my tummy and it was the last area to be affected.

I've called my doctor's office, they asked me to come in whenever I can, today or tomorrow, and we'll get me checked out. I think it's very likely I have PUPPPS. I was instructed to use a 1% hydrocortisone cream for my itching stretch marks, but I used it on the hives instead and it took a bit of irritation away, very briefly. Until I see the doc this is what I will continue to do. I've also washed all of our bed linens and blankets, and everything else in the house. I've read that PUPPPS doesn't go away until after the delivery of baby, well I haven't said this yet but I am hurting for this baby to come out soon so I don't have to live with these horrible itchies for another (potential) 2 weeks.

8 days from the due date..
last night I got a real contraction or two that wrapped to my back, but they were very brief and not consistent.

If anybody has any words of advice, I will gladly accept..

The top pics are of my left&right calves. The dry skin on my knee is psoriasis, FYI. Those bumps seem to be a bit different in appearance than the ones on the back of my thighs (bottom pic) which look more like chicken pox and are raised, sort of swollen. The bumpies are now starting to crawl up my arms and belly too. I can't wait to see the doctor, in the mean time, I am using an ice pack to relax the irritation a bit because scratching just makes me itchier, and angry!

EDIT

Doc said it's a "Pregnancy Rash" and told me to take some benedryl (or something of the like) and use a 1% hydrocortisone cream. Well I bought the generic allergy medication of the same strength and I already have 0.5% HC so I wasn't about to go buy a tube of stronger stuff. Voila, I hope it helps.
