It Was Ten Years Ago Today...
Ten years ago today, October 1, 1998, Carlos and I moved in together.
He left behind everything and everyone he knew to be here with me.
We did precisely what our respective families thought was the absolute worst idea ever.
It's turned out to be the smartest thing we ever did. I can't imagine my life without him. Where would I be now? Certainly nowhere approaching the blissful existence that is my life today.
For the first year, I asked him every month if he wanted to go back to California yet.
He always said no.
In subsequent years, I have only asked on October 1.
Still no.
He told me no today, even before I got a chance to ask. :)
I am so glad he's never wanted to leave, and hope he never has reason to.
Not only am I happy that he's with me still, and overjoyed to share our amazing, beautiful daughter with him, but I'm happy that he's found a home in this city, and has spent so much time and energy to help it grow and improve. We never go anywhere but that we run into someone he knows, and I like that.
That's just Carlos for you, though. He doesn't do anything halfway. If he sets out to do something, he finds out everything he can about it and gets involved in as many aspects of it as he can. Ask him sometime how many projects he has going on, how many groups with which he's involved, and ask him ANY question about anything going on with any of them, or going on with Tulsa.
If you get a chance, congratulate him on 10 years out of California. :) Let him know what has made YOU glad he's been here. I'm positive you all want him here for decades to come, too.
