Down the Rabbit Hole (dcmk, 1/18)
Summary: In which Ran hunts down Shinichi’s killers, inherits the detective cap, gets into spy games with one Masumi Sera and takes the lead in ways more than one. Set in an alternate universe where memory, not immortality, is the battleground.
Notes: As this is an AU there are plenty of differences - some subtle, some overt - between this universe and canon universe, starting with the BO mythology. Some odd quirks: lines italicised and enclosed in brackets indicate the voice of imaginary Shinichi; lines italicised without brackets belong to Ran's inner voice.
First Chapter
I've been trying to write as much of this piece as possible, until completion even, before I start posting. But it's such a lonely process and given my glacial progress it's probably going to take another ten years before I'm done. I'm so tired these days that I almost feel like giving up but so much has been written (though it requires some rewriting). I owe it to ritz, at least, to see this to the end. Anyway, here's the first chapter.
