SUMMARY: Ever since Junhyung moved to Jongno, Seoul, he's heard of the "Midnight man." Junhyung's heard many versions of the story-- One is that the man's a vampire out to search for human flesh after Midnight since everyone is asleep. Another, he's a creep that stalks women and brings them to his home where he kills them. There have been many talks of the tale and Junhyung doesn't believe a single one. Then one fateful night, he bumps into the alleged Midnight man, Jang Hyunseung, and learns that there's more to the man than just the rumors. Something deep is about to unfold
"2 YEARS AGO"
"Class, I want you to meet your new classmate. He moved all the way from Daegu. Please welcome Yong Junhyung!" the teacher initiated the applause and the students in her first year high school class followed suit, unenthusiastically.
Junhyung remained emotionless and just bowed without saying a word. Half of the class thought he was strange and whispered nasty words about him; some of the girls thought he was mysterious and whispered to each other at how cool he was. Everyone was quite noisy, except for one.
Junhyung sat down on his seat and the guy beside him extended his hand for a handshake, "Hi, my name's Yoon Doojoon. I moved here from Daegu as well, back in elementary school. So, I know how it feels to be the new kid." Junhyung just looked at him, annoyed, and after looking at the extended hand, he ignored it and turned his head. Doojoon's extended hand was used to scratch his head, pretending his handshake didn't get rejected just then.
"Junhyung, right?" Doojoon asked.
Junhyung let out a breath, clearly wasn't in the mood to speak to anyone. In the end, to get Doojoon off his back, he nodded.
"Is it okay if I ask how old you are?"
After a short while, Doojoon thought he was going to be ignored again, Junhyung answered, "I'm 16"
"Oh? I'm 16 as well. When's your birthday?"
"...December 19"
"That makes me older then! Mine's on July 4."
Junhyung didn't look at him, he just kept his focus on the teacher up front, hoping that Doojoon would keep quiet after being rejected again.
"Hey, Junhyung-ah"
'Junhyung-ah? This guy has the nerve to pretend we're close?' Junhyung thought.
"If you want anyone to show you around, just let me know. I could take you to the famous hang-outs near here and--"
"Yoon Doojoon!" the teacher shouted.
Doojoon was shocked. With his shoulders bent forward and head slightly low, he turned to face the front. His teacher had walked from the front of the classroom to the front of his desk. She tapped her ruler on his book. "Yoon Doojoon, do you realize we're in a class?"
"Uhm... yes...?"
"What are you supposed to do during class?"
"Err...study."
"Yes, that, and also, you should listen to the teacher when she's speaking. You've been blabbing ever since our new student sat down. I wasn't even able to hear myself think."
"I'm sorry, *seonsaengnim"
The teacher let out a sigh. She was about to walk back to the front when she noticed Junhyung was staring into space. She then thought of an idea, "Yong Junhyung."
Junhyung raised his eyebrow, "Yes, seonsaengnim?"
"Since you're new here and you're quite quiet, I want you to spend time with Yoon Doojoon over here."
Junhyung jaw nearly dropped, as for Doojoon, it did. Junhyung wanted to protest to the idea, "Seonsaengnim, I don't--"
"You need a buddy," she interrupted him, "and I think Yoon Doojoon would be the perfect one for you. I hope your stay here will be a fruitful one, Yong Junhyung." She chuckled a little before walking back to the front of the classroom. The other students giggled as well. As for Junhyung, he wasn't that excited. How long was he going to spend time with that Yoon Doojon guy? He hoped it wasn't for long.

"Junhyung-ah, do you remember our first meeting 2 years ago?" Doojoon asked his best friend while they walked down the street to school.
"Hm? Of course I do. You were annoying," Junhyung said, which resulted in a loud laugh.
"Yah! I wasn't annoying! I was being friendly. You were the one that was hard to please. It took me a month to actually get more than a phrase from you as a reply."
"I'm not a talkative guy, okay? You know that."
"I know that now but I didn't know it back then. Man, I remember bringing you to all those karaoke bars in one night... that's what got you to talk more."
"Karaoke bars are a place for me to burst into song!"
"...your use of words are very interesting, Yong Junhyung. Or should I say... Yong Jaesoon!" Doojoon grin turned wide as he knew Junhyung would get annoyed when the latter heard his real name being called out.
"I told you not to call me that!" Junhyung started hitting Doojoon on the shoulder. His slaps weren't that manly at all, which made Doojoon laugh even more.
"You slap like a girl, Jaes--"
"Shut up!" and the slapping continued until they reached the gate of their school.
"You get upset easily," Doojoon stated.
"You talk too much," Junhyung retaliated.
"Touche, Junhyung."

It was five minutes before class. Doojoon and Junhyung were just waiting. Doojoon thought it would be a good time to catch up on his nap while Junhyung decided to write a few lyrics on his math notebook. Junhyung then overheard his female classmates talking about something.
"Have you heard about the Midnight man?" asked one girl to her friend.
"Yeah... he's a vampire, isn't he?"
"No! He's some creepy stalker that waits for girls and brings them to his house. I have this cousin, he told me that his girlfriend was kidnapped and was taken by the Midnight man once."
"Are you serious? Wah... that's so scary..."
"I know, right? We should definitely go home before it gets dark or else we'd be next."
Junhyung remembered the rumors about the Midnight man back when he first moved to Jongno. The rumors were ridiculous and he still thought it was. Who would believe in the existance of such a man?
"If I ever meet the Midnight man... I'll force him to tell the truth to everyone about his identity to clear all this idiocy," Junhyung said to himself.
Doojoon suddenly sat up, "Ah!" He shook his head and patted his cheeks, "Did I have a nightmare again?"
Junhyung responded, "You probably just thought of your face..."
"Aish, you little--"
The bell rang. Class was about to begin. Little did Junhyung know, his encounter with the Midnight man was going to be sooner than he thought.
