We'll walk through the fire

I opened up LJ because, being on a Mac, you have nothing else to play around with.  And it says, the last time I've updated my journo was 3 weeks ago.  LOLZ.  I was wondering whether I was going to let this blog go to the dogs, but nay, I am still alive folks.

The only reason why I haven't blogged for so long is because I've since started working and that has taken up a lot of time, and whenever I come home from work, all I ever want to do is sleep.  Sigh.  But alas, things have transpired since then, both good and bad.

First of all, it is Christmas, so Merry Christmas all, and I hope you are spending your time with family as opposed to with games.  The cold flicker of the monitor screen cannot offer you comfort in hard times like these.  Nor can the awesome splendid sound of a machine gun crackling against the oncoming horde of zombies.  Mmmmm.  Anyway, my computer has died.  I was playing Left 4 Dead a couple of nights back and then suddenly it crashed (from overheating), so I thought this was just a very normal circumstance.  When I rebooted my PC, and ran the chkdsk operation, there was a whole string of corrupted files that kept spewing out endlessly.  So I waited for that to pass, and then it restarted, and then there was the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

I couldn't get pass to the Windows Vista login page, so obviously I knew for a fact that my computer had in some way fried.  Thankfully, I was still under warranty (or not, but I won't delve into that story), so all I had to do was take it to the Acer centre for repairs.  Which is a pain in the ass because it was uber far away, on top of which this would be my 3rd time taking my blasted PC down to the centre.  *sigh*

The good thing is, they said they can fix my machine, replace a new hard drive, do a clean install of Vista, and then I can retrieve all my data from the extracted hard drive.  So that's like "wow" awesome, I was going to reformat my PC sometime anyway.  And they'll replace my keyboard which is like gross and with keys coming off lulz.  And the best part is that they are cleaning the fan, and hopefully ensuring my motherboard doesn't "abnormally" overheat.

Whatever, the worst part is though that I have to wait till Jan 6th to get my laptop back, what with now being the festive season.  FUUCK.  2 weeks without a computer, can I even survive that long.  It wouldn't be so bad if I were on some overseas holiday trip but this is no trip.  I'm in Singapore, this is normal life, and normal life requires normal things, such as internet access and communication with the rest of the world.  I don't want to rely on my brother's Macbook too much, because it is, after all his.

Pain in the ass is all I have to say.  I hope I dont' go insane with the waiting.

Other things happening though, I know which computer I want to buy.  My awesome next laptop shall be the Asus G50v-A1:

Its specs are:
Windows Vista Ultimate
Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53Ghz
nVidia Geforce 9700GT 512 DDR3 ram
15.4" LCD
4GB DDR2 Ram with 2GB Turbo Memory
320GB HDD (5200 RPM)
DVD RW
and the rest of the shenanigans

along with a bag, a headset, and a gaming mouse (logitech, unfortunately, not a razer), all for the sweet price of $3098 SGD.  Okay, so that is a little pricey, and I can probably get the Gateway FX P-series with a 9800M GT 1GB DDR3 ram for $2888 SGD, but the latter is now bought over by Acer, who is a screwed up company, and Asus is a far more reliable brand with better service.  Plus Gateway's warranty is only local 1 year whereas Asus is 2-year international.  SO FUCK THAT GATEWAY, although the power is considerably better T_T.  It was a hard decision to make, but no way was I going to splurge on an Alienware or Dell XPS, those are like carrying motherships, plus SLi gives you more grunt, not more performance (so says Sean).

(Fiery orange, mmmm, although the color is not to everyone's taste.  I think it is awesome.  Definetly something to brag about hahah.  And not too over the top like the Dell and Alienwares)

I hope I'll be able to purchase this machine, hopefully saving up my moolah until the end of Jan, and I should be able to.  My Acer is long long gone, now it'll only be good for word processing and the likes.  I need something uber for my gaming fix.

With that said, I haven't kept up much with the gaming world, although I hear the new Prince of Persia sucks like crap.  But Braid, the awesome indie-made platformer (and if you don't know about it, shame on you, check it on wiki or something) is coming to PC round about February to March.  I've always wanted to play that game after I've heard all sorts of good things about it, although it was sad when it just came out first on Xbox Live.

Basically, the game has you controlling a character and manipulating time (sounds like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time but it isn't) to defeat the levels.  Basically, each level will have a different time warping puzzle, such as whenever you walk forward, time reverses, so you have to figure out a way around that or something.  And the graphics are pleasant (as can be seen above) and rather relaxing.  Cool stuff.

Anyway, that's it for now, I've had enough blogging, and I need to go for a run on this awesome Christmas morning.  I wish I'd get a cool Christmas present of an awesome G50v-A1.  But I guess that's hoping for too much.
