If you guys haven't seen the flash animated mini-series, There She Is! by SamBakZa, then I highly recommend that you do.
It's about a girl-rabbit named Doki, and a boy-cat named Nabi, who share an unusual love despite the hardships they have to endure from others who think their relationship is wrong. It was introduced to me by a friend who had jokingly said that I was Doki and Mr Lim was Nabi -- when you see the first video, where Doki chases her boytoy around insanely, you'll know why. (And LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL at Doki giving Nabi a carrot cake while he's sitting on the toilet.) But as I watched the rest of the 'steps' (episodes), I was surprised to find that it was actually less cute and more thought-provoking than just a rabbit chasing a cat.
The first three episodes are centered about their budding relationship and the effect that their pairing has had on their friends and family, and results in a couple of other rabbit-cat couples. However, in episode four, things get dark when the other side of the coin is revealed and while one side hails Doki and Nabi as heroes for breaking down the barriers, there are groups of angry citizens who find their relationship wrong and disgusting. Their pleasant dates are ruined by individuals who harass them on the street, and eventually this leads to Nabi breaking up with Doki after she is hospitalized when a group of protesters attack her. Heartbroken, Doki makes plans to move away while Nabi tries to forget her, which is hard with the graffiti scrawl and Doki's gangster bunny friends everywhere.
The series was recently concluded with the final episode, Step 5: Imagine. I love how it's, at first glance, all cutesy pie but eventually gets darker, and how in the end it gives an important messages that still very much valid. Our society strives to overcome its own divisions but as you know, there will always be those who can't just mind their own business and let people love whom they will.
In the end, I have to say that I really enjoyed it and I hope that everyone has a chance to watch the first episode at the very least. ♥
