The card, or more correctly its message, brings Ali up short. She's surprised he remembers, and feels horribly that she didn't. She'd known it was vaguely soonish, but linear time is hard for her and a year is such a long time. And she can't help but wonder...

*A few things made the day memorable for him, though meeting Ali had the best long-term effects.

If he were to come upon her wondering this morning he would kiss her neck and ask her if there was anything he could help her with.*

Yeah, because that's a conversation she wants to have today. So she'd smile and say nothing's wrong, she's just surprised.

*He smiles and relaxes a little.* You're welcome.

Have you eaten? Do you want to eat?

"Not yet, but I should. Just something little..."

Scones? Oatmeal? Cereal? Toast?*Probably better to stick with the gentle foods...*

"Scones and juice, please?"

*He smiles.* Ok, coming right up.

*He pours a glass of juice for her then warms up some scones for the two of them and gets out the butter and jelly.*

She curls up at the kitchen table, wrapped up in a shawl and wearing her fluffy bunny slippers that she loves so very much, watching him with a smile.
