I am from the ocean. The waves pull me out and I am at the mercy of the current. It does not matter. I float north under ice floes and around chunks of glacier. I see below me a glowing community of the deep. Terrible organisms glow with phosphorescent beauty and I do not tremble in fear. I am from the depths.
Above me I see diving things, both slick and fur covered, with and without wings. Holding in their warm breath as they hunt and play. Some propel straight up until they breach the liquid surface. Others return through holes in the ice that are the beams of flashlights in the distance. The mid waters are my home.
While I drift and watch, the direction of my current turns and I leave the icy north. The dark waters gradually lighten until my vision is filled with fathoms of blue green. The sea is warmer and the creatures more colorful. Darting bits of bright color banded together in their schools, waving fronds of seaweed. The sunlight shines through the water dappling us all. I am from the shallows.
I roll onto the beach with waves pushing me inevitably back to land. I am from the ocean and I will return.
