Today's club ride was EPIC. We did 4 or 5 big hills - some of which had 20% - 25% gradients (and more!). These kinds of hills make people get off their bikes and walk, if not driving them to tears. We had three triathletes in the gang - one never seemed to get tired, the bastard. He was also super lovely and encouraging, so not an ACTUAL bastard you understand. It was hot as the blazes and the tea stop after 30 miles was really appreciated - although I felt like I could do with a nap by that point. After the tea break we did Toy's Hill and Hogtrough Hill. Latter has a section that, according to my rough calculations, is a 28% gradient. This is "feels like my front wheel's going to lift off backwards" time. The final run back into town was absolute bliss, spent in top gear, hands in drops, hammering it home all the way. Spectacular. Oh, and of course all the downhill bits were fab too. I equalled my previous top speed record of 34.2mph.

For your delectation, an elevation map of our ride:

According to V's Garmin we spent about 1h 20min ascending, 1h 29min on the flat, and a mere 48 min descending. And by "we" I mean "he" - the Garmin was tracking his time. Including the ride to the club and back, as well as a little detour I made when I got lost from the group, I almost covered 60 miles today. :)

Next week we're cycling across Wales over 4 days. Fun!

But for now I'm settling down with a G&T.
