Heart attack! (open thread)

Zhi Jin, more commonly known as the True Master, was out for a walk. She'd been staying quietly in Jump City for months with her relatives. There was a time for solitude, after all, and a time to be with family. Given that she'd spent more than thirty years living in relative solitude, a return to living with others for a few months to a year ( Read more... )

It was a good day for a jog, plenty of sun, and the smog wasn't really bad. It was times like this that made Cyborg wish he had his actual body back. Sure it was great to have all the cybernetic enhancements but nothing quite beat the feeling of just you and the asphalt, heart pounding, short of breath, the feeling of accomplishment. Despite the nice day, he heard a few terrified screams.

Well, it had been a nice day, but it was time to get down to business, save some lives, defeat the bad guys. He bolted as fast as he could to the scene of the attack, and saw, Cardiac. This was one of those annoying monsters, that seemed to never truly be destroyed, no matter what the Titans threw at it.

Flipping his communicator on, he gave a call-out to the team. "Hey guys, we got some heart problems going down in the park, Cardiac is back, I'm going in now, and seeing what I can do, see ya!" he messaged them all quickly before moving towards Cardiac.

"Hey big red and ugly! Time for a butt whooping!" he yelled at Cardiac, he really hated how this thing looked.

Ugh, a freakin' Titan -- and the one that thought he had better tech than VACUUM TUBES, no less. Lub-dub. Snacktime could wait; now came the sucky-sucky with the tubey-tubey trained on the Titan to feed the hearty-hearty. Lub-dub. Those were all highly technical terms for the heart, by the way.

Just when Starfire wondered if she should make plans with friends for the beautiful day, an alert from Cyborg interrupted her train of thought. Cardiac? This ought to become interesting very quickly. She answered Cyborg back, "I will be right there," and started to fly off to the scene.

When she found Cardiac and Cyborg -- uh oh. Are those tubes out to do some sucky-sucky on Cyborg? Starfire wasn't going to take any of that while sitting down! She prepares a star bolt and fires at Cardiac.

Starfire wasn't the only one who heeded Cyborg's call. Kole was at Jump City's library when the message came in; the librarian promised to hold her books for her until she came back, and Kole was off to the scene as fast as she could go.

Kole arrived at the battle site just in time to see Starfire launching a star bolt at...was that a giant heart? "Oh, you've gotta be kidding me," she muttered to herself.

Without hesitating, Kole launced three shards of crystal at the tubes in the hopes of puncturing them.

Adult girl making the flash-fire-PAIN, argh, freakin' girl; would have to deal with her the only way it knew how. Lub-dub. Another tube out of nowhere trying to do the sucky while the first tube nurses its injuries.

Oooh, new smell; what was it? Lub-dub. Hm, looks like kid, smells like kid, making with MORE PAIN NOT GOOD but hey, two out of three weren't bad. Lub-dub. It would take more than that to puncture the tubes -- they must be made of some kind of metal! -- but at least now Starfire was no longer being focused on. Lub-dub. Now the free, not-recovering-from-exploderation tube is going for that new hurty kid smell.

Aiming carefully, Cyborg shot his sonic canon directly at the joint of one of the tubes, the other attacks hadn't been as successful, but this was one of those highly annoying creatures, that had a tendency not to go down quickly. He made sure to keep moving around as he blasted away at its tubes, it wouldn't be styling to be caught by a heart, he'd be teased for quite some time if he did.

Kole nearly froze when the tube changed its trajectory and started heading for her instead of Cyborg. Completely on instinct she shifted into her crystal form, firing off another shard.

Starfire was aware enough to avoid Cardiac's tubes, and she was appreciative that its attention was taken off of her and that Cyborg was blasting at them. Obviously taking those tubes down was the right idea, so she follows the same plan as Cyborg. The less things that can grab at them, the better.

The True Master stepped forward. She could only assume that the young people that were helping to fight the...sentient child-devouring heart were Robin's friends, the Teen Titans. She hadn't heard about the pink haired girl, but the girl with the orange skin, and the man with cybernetic limbs were familiar, by description anyways.

They were doing a good job of keeping the heart from its goal of consuming children, but there were vital points on everything. If it was, in fact, structured exactly like the human heart was anatomically, striking the tubes was a good way of preventing the heart from eating children, but not the way to beat it.
