Popolo March 2010 - This is Ikuta Toma’s To-mainichi (Toma-Everyday)
Ikuta Toma

This month’s regular current status column “To-minichi” will be an extended version☆What do you do on your day off? Which movie did you watch recently? Well, let’s take a look at Ikuta Toma’s diary!!

①I took a 7 month long cover.
I was on the documentary show Jounetsu Tairiku (Passion Continent) but did you watch it!? It was a 7 month cover from production announcement for the movie Ningen Shikkaku (No longer human) so lot of off shots. My “true side” was taped too (laughs). I had a nice talk with the movie loving director so it was a good experience.

②My filming in Kyoto was a luxurious time.
At opening announcement for Ningen Shikkaku, co-star Mita Yoshiko san commented on that heart pounding scene (laughs). I couldn’t go sightseeing in Kyoto, where I filmed because I spent time reading my script in the hotel room when I had time.  But, how I spent time was like an actor, a extravagant time.

③All hyped up for my Hawaii family vacation
Fact that I was able to go on a Hawaii vacation with my parents and my brother at the end of the year mad me happy (laughs). It was my first time going oversea privately. I went on jet skiing with my little brother and just playful the whole time. I was able to refresh myself so I intend to work harder now!

④I’m currently watching it over and over
I went to buy Michael Jackson’s DVD THIS IS IT on the day it came out (laughs). To get my mood up, I even watched it this morning.  I might be hooked on Michael lately because I also listen to the soundtrack when I’m going to work.

⑤Giving my gratitude to those who took care of me
You can never forget to appreciate someone. That’s why I just sent a surprise present to someone who looked after me on a TV show. I guess I like to surprise people (laughs).

⑥Soaking in the bathtub in cold seasons!
I usually stay at a hotel for movie promotions but I try to soak in the bathtub rather than taking a shower to get rid of my fatigue from that day. Also, I turn on humidifier or listen to soothing music on my cell phone to get some sleep.

⑦My first suppon meals in Nagoya☆
The Hitsumabushi and Suppon I ate in Nagoya was so good~. Suppon looked very realistic but it had a strong rich flavor and it was awesome!! Since I ate a vitalizing food at the end of my day,  I was able to tell myself “I’m gonna do my best again, tomorrow” (laughs).

※Suppon; soft shelled turtle soup. Hitsumabushi: Type of eel rice bowl famous in Nagoya

⑧The highlight of that day was that book with me on the cover lined up at the bookstore
The best part about the NingenShikkaku event at a Osaka’s book store was that all the Dazai Osamu’s paperback novels were all covers of me (laughs). Even SMAP’s Nakai kun was surprised. When I actually saw it all lined up, I was very touched.

⑨Miyane san’s joke and feeling warmhearted during visit to Osaka
I’m secretly glad that I was able to appear in Osaka’s live show, Miyane-ya. Miyane (Seiji) san’s joke was just out of this world. Also, I went to eat yakiniku with the staffs later that night and the old lady there cooked all my meat for me. I felt warmhearted (laughs).

⑩I want to go diving in Okinawa’s ocean one day
I keep myself busy but I feel relaxed when I’m talking with my hometown friends about what we’re doing lately over dinner. I see how grateful friends really are. Also, I have a secret ambition …. If I have time, I want to try scuba diving. Wouldn’t it feel awesome to go diving in Okinawa’s beautiful ocean!?
