Viu approached from a distance. As he came closer, he saw that a familiar figure was sitting by the remains of last night’s campfire. Someone who wasn’t actually there.
“Marcus…?”
The man smiled at him. “Long time no see, kid,” he replied.
Viu had no answer. He knew it was a dream - the shattered remains of Marcus’s gun were lying right beside the man.
“I… I’m sorry,” the boy finally said.
“Don’t worry,” his friend said simply. “There are plenty here.”
“Here?”
“At the place we dreamt of.” Marcus grinned. “You know where.”
Viu woke up, tears in his eyes.
Gun Blaze West may just be the most unappreciated Weekly Jump series ever. It's got a beautiful backstory, great action, great characters, and a fun plot... but somehow, it just didn't go down well with the readers (both here and in Japan, seeing as it got canceled after three volumes). Perhaps people were expecting another Rurouni Kenshin and Nobuhiro Watsuki just didn't live up to their expectations. Well, it's not my place to say why, but I loved it and I dedicate my first 100-word drabble to it. I love you forever Gun Blaze West!
