It felt like a betrayal, watching his friends advance while he stayed firmly in place. They moved on without him, into the world of professional go, and their feet trailed the dust that was all that remained of Isumi's dreams.
It would be easy, so easy, to vilify them, to blame them for holding him back, holding him down, but Isumi was smarter than that. He knew he'd have done the same, would have used their hopes as stepping stones to success, if only he had the nerve.
In the end, the one betraying him all this time had been Isumi himself.

Argh, dammit. I'm supposed to be working, not writing craptastic, angsty!Isumi fic. Haven't been reading any Jump series lately, so I can't seem to write for them anymore. D: And the last line was ripped almost directly from Onitsuka's "Shadow."
