Welcome to the 'Own a Kneeguard" club. I did modern dance in school (family has genetic ties to Gumby) and with all the jumping and landing on knees, mine were gone ages ago. Liniment also is your friend. I used Aveda Blue Gel but they've discontinued it (the rotters!) and have found their Foot Relief quite serviceable as a massage gel for the knees as it is for feet.
