I think that this is one of those "fake" whining that I see typically on people that are running some kind of scam. There are many auctions that get a lot of complaining or sad stories and I sometimes wonder just how legit any of them are.

Okay, let's do the hard math. First of all, she's selling not 40, but 44 Pokemon cards. Well Pokemon cards always come 10 to a pack. Where did the other six go?

And do you know how much Pokemon cards cost? About 35 cents each after taxes. Yes, seriously. So in other words, this "angry mother" is complaining that she lost about 15 whopping dollars on something her kids made her buy. $15 isn't even enough to buy a week's worth of gasoline in America. And if she saw them in the bag, she can ask the cashier to just take them off the receipt. She was even paying with a check, which means that she had to spend time at the counter anyway. Why did she pay for them? You mean if they had stuck in a Playstation 3, she would have said, "Well, okay, I'll just cut you a check for $499 (plus taxes)!"

Here's what I think. I think that this is really some scammer who decided to see if s/he could sell off a stack of worthless Pokemon cards, and then using a lengthy story to gather sympathy/rage. It must have worked, as the auction gained over 100,000 hits and somebody bought maybe $20 worth of cards for over $100... Assuming that the guy isn't going to default on the payment.
