So, at a couple of the gas stations we visited on our trip last week, I saw something that I didn't know existed: 85 octane gas.
Since cars require a minimum of 87 octane, what purpose does 85 serve? Is it a special blend for farming equipment or the like? I'm guessing no, because I've made a lot of trips through farm country (e.g., California's Central Valley) and I've never seen anything less than 87.
So, is this common where you live? Here in Reno, your choices are 87, 89, and 91 or 92. But in Ely and Elko, it's 85, 88, or 91.
