1,200 + miles later, we have returned . . .

Jun 28, 2009 20:48

Tomorrow is a recovery day before I go back to work. I may go back Tuesday, or maybe not until Wednesday. Need to call and find out exactly when I'm expected to return.

There will be a full report, along with lots and lots of photos of our trip across "The Loneliest Road In America," but, for now, here are some stats for you:

NEW COUNTIES BEEN IN (in chronological order):
Elko NV
Tooele UT
Humboldt NV
Pershing NV

(Though there were several others we went through that I hadn't been in since 1987, namely: Lander NV; Eureka NV; White Pine NV; Millard UT)

NEW COUNTIES SLEPT IN (in chronological order):
Eureka NV
White Pine NV
Elko NV

NEW COUNTIES DRIVEN IN (in chronological order):
Lander NV
Eureka NV
White Pine NV
Millard UT
Elko NV
Tooele UT
Humboldt NV
Pershing NV

Interesting facts about this trip. Sorry, these are all road-scholarly, but I guess that shouldn't be too surprising, since it was, after all, a road trip:

1. Surprisingly, it represents the first time I had ever personally driven across a time zone boundary, which I did twice.

2. Utah is the first new state I've driven in since Washington in 2005.

3. I have now crossed the Nevada/Utah border at four different places*, tying the record of "most different places to cross the border" set by the California/Nevada border. They are, in order: NV 487/UT-21 near Garrison, US 6/50 at Border, UT-58/NV-58 at Wendover, I-80 at Wendover. Ha, beat that!!

4. Interstate 80 is now the record holder for "I've driven on it in the most states," California, Nevada, and Utah. I-80 breaks the tie it had with I-5 (California and Washington) and I-10 (California and Texas). But this is only because I'm a dork and couldn't find the onramp to westbound I-80 at Wendover, and ended up going east to what is technically in Utah, at Exit 4 (Bonneville Speedway) where I doubled back.

5. Nevada has now become the first state that I have driven all the way across on the same highway, in this case, Interstate 80. (Though not all at once.)

OK, time for a bath, then off to bed.
