Let's see if email entry works.... here we go!
So since my last entry, we went up to New Jersey!
On the way up, I started doing watch quals, which for deck includes things
like driving the ship- which is amazing in some ways- and standing lookout.
I've never seen the night sky look that clear before, and apparently it
gets even better during deployment.
When we pulled into Jersey, we got some time to go off and do our own
thing. I went into NYC with a friend from the ship and we went to the
Museum of Natural History for most of the day. It was immense. We spent
several hours there and still didn't see everything! Only half, at best.
Probably way less.
Afterwards, we went to Penn Station and met up with Kaitie to go to an
fusion restaurant! She now has proof that I am a real live human being and
one who is not more questionable than someone female and in their twenties
with good intentions can be. It was awesome and we spent most of the time
until we had leave to catch the train back to NJ talking.
I also met up with my dad's best friend Drew and his wife Jessica and we
spent Thursday going down the NJ coast to see the seaside towns. I ate a
ton of local food- including pizza, finally seeing for myself the reason
my dad gets down on pizza everywhere else.
With watch, it's been pretty neat, lack of sleep aside. Steering the ship
is way easier than I thought it would be, the only hard part is repeating
the orders back.
We are also doing things in the well deck, like taking boats into it! Which
does require some effort, but not too much.
I'm going to leave this off here for now, until we come in, which is gonna
be in a couple weeks or so.
