067; 34 ICONS
I decided to post this batch for 20inspirations after several posts on my personal journal and fiddling around with the individual icons. When I saw the inspiration post, ngl, I immediately backed the hell away, because I know next to nothing about art. I am not good at using those painty brushes and filters, and painting and drawing aren't for me. But then I saw a comment over at anon_icon that described the Baroque and Rococo styles. I was bored, so I gave it a go, and made 10 GK icons.
I know. GK? Art? Not complementary, a military show about Marines in Iraq and Art. But I had fun and I really like quite a few of them, so here you go. As stated above, no painty things, so sue me for not being arty and experimental enough, that's fair. I never claimed to be either anyway XD Let's hope this is okay.

RENAISSANCE
about: I know that the Renaissance was a period of 'rebirth'. There was a focus on math and science and the human (mainly the white male/Cartesian subject). Proportion and perspective became increasingly important, and there was a great use of mathematics in art. Personally, I find Renaissance art to be aloof at times, and very much direct and categorical. It's less abstract than realist, and also balanced (from my research i.e. wikipedia) between theology and the human.
characteristics: natural human expressions, proportion, intense detail, complex emotions, movement, everyday, full backgrounds, serenity, symmetry
translation: I mostly focused on the above characteristics/words that I gathered from various sources. I guessed that each icon should capture a moment/frame of a character in action or thought, but that it should be less dramatic than the Baroque style.

BAROQUE
about: Mostly encouraged by the Catholic church. More emotional and dramatic than Renaissance art, which were more restrained and controlled, I suppose. Power, control, and drama.
characteristics: dramatic, action, rich colours, depth, intense light, dark shadows, grand, contrast
translation: Again, mostly used the verbal description, but I really wanted to focus on the contrast between darkness and light, and also maybe include a point of tension.

ROCOCO
about: Also known as Late Baroque. Less srs bzns, more laidback and casual and schmexy~ Mostly seen in architecture and internal design. Lots and lots of gold embellishments.
characteristics: pastels, asymmetry, curves, gold, playful, artistic, ornate, themes of love, sexy, leisurely, pastoral, laidback
translation: Even though it says pastels, I went for colour and bright yellows because I suck at pale icons lbr. Good theme for the UST between Brad and Nate lmao. My only issue is that while the Rococo style is ornate, the paintings are more naturalistic, which uhm might be at odds with the vibrant colours of the icons? I suppose I was more inspired by the Rococo sculptures and architecture and internal design.
