girls

maybe i shouldn't have read Smashed and Female Chauvanist Pigs consecutively. the first book being about a girls getting drunk all the time and what she did, or did not learn from it. the second being about the culture of women today with all it's skankiness. i seriously did not realize the connection of these two books until i overheard a conversation between the two girls i work with at the motel. one girl said she drank a fifth of vodka before the SATs. then they were talking about hangovers. it reminded me so much of smashed. betsy said the first time she drank was in 8th grade and i guess i just find that shocking and the other girl is only 16, and very very petite. you can read books and be seperated from the truth in that sort of, ohhh, that sounds really bad. but these books are reality which is scary. girls get drunk now just as much as guys. and they drink for confidence or to feel sexy or to be more free. and that goes right along with female chauvanist pigs, the way girls dress is a way of proclaiming that they are sexy but do any of them know what sexy really is besides pleasing a man. and girls settle for less too, betsy was saying that at the other place she works, the hotdog/hamburger place, they don't let the girls make the food because they'll mess it up. these are the things that really bother me, listening to girls tell stories of how much they drink or waxing or sleeping with how many guys.
girls don't get credit for being intellectual because they are not being intellectual.
