Oh my goodness, starsandgraces just directed me this way, because I do live in the DC area, but it seems you've found her a place! She is so adorable! If the shelter doesn't work out, give me a holler and I will MAKE IT WORK.

Would you like her? I would so much rather give her directly to a good home! You just have to promise to spay her and give her all her shots.

She is SO sweet! Every time I go in to check on her, she just wants to nuzzle me to death. I can't get her to hold still, but her eyes are beautiful. One blue, one brown.

I would love her! Goodness, she even sounds so adorable. I'll have a chat with my dad about it, given that he is my roommate, but even if it turns out that I can't take her, I will do my absolute best to find her a home (and at least offer pay for her shots and to have her fixed for the person/family that takes her). Can you spare a day or two for me to double-check everything?

Oh, man, I really can't wait a few more days. I'm going to be gone all day tomorrow and all day monday, and I don't want to leave her locked up in the bathroom all that time. I kind of want to get her to a vet ASAP. She seems like she's in good health but, er, her bum doesn't look all that great.

Middle road: I was planning on taking her to the AWLA tomorrow morning. If you wait and adopt her from there, it's a hundred dollars, but it will include:

A certificate for a free exam with a participating veterinarian. Fees for other services performed will be paid by the adopter to the veterinary hospital.
Spay/neuter surgery (Additional fees may apply under special circumstances.)
A feline leukemia/feline AIDS test
A distemper vaccination
A personalized I.D. tag
A microchip

That would give you enough time to get permission, and it would give her enough time to get checked out by a vet.

I've just checked with my dad and he has given the go-ahead, but having her at least checked out and fixed will be a good thing (I've had a cat with feline leukemia and it's really the worst D:). Would you need me to drive up tonight to get her, if I were to take her directly? We've taken my dog to Banfield, so she'll likely be cared for there if we go ahead with it, unless the animal clinic we've been eying works out to be a better fit. Also, at least this way it would give us time to prepare the house for her. Your suggestion is actually a good compromise for time, and will definitely ensure that she goes to a good home if things don't all work out.

I'll PM you with my name, phone number and email address, so I'll be able to keep you updated with what's going on, at least. I am frantically texting/IMing/PMing everyone I know in the area, just in case someone else is more directly available than I am. (I live in Fredericksburg and commute up during the week for work and grad classes in Arlington.)

If you could pick her up tomorrow morning, that would be ideal! You don't have to drive all the way up here tonight!

I'll get your address and email you more details!

Also, I don't have to leave for work until eleven tomorrow morning, so there's no rush. I won't get home until late, though, which is why I think morning would work best.

I could also meet you halfway! I have access to a zipcar, and would be more than happy to cut your drive time!
