Currently, there is a bipartisan bill under consideration in Congress:
The Jubilee Act. (Related, I'll bet, to the Biblical
Jubilee Year.)
Anywho, the basic idea is to cancel punitive debt for impoverished countries with decent human rights records, like Haiti. Over the course of its history, Haiti has taken out a bunch of high-interest loans. And it's hamstrung the country:
Haiti: the land where children eat mud. IMHO,
dropping the debt is about not only the decent thing, it's the ONLY thing that makes us decent to our neighbors. Haiti is listed as being 'at the decision point' for inclusion in the bill.

look them up here. Either way, BE SURE YOU MENTION HAITI FOR INCLUSION IN THE BILL.
