I don't think Spike Lee is appreciated as much as he should be. Everyone should watch "Do the Right Thing" it's one of the better films of the past 20 years. This year the American Film Institute listed it as the 96th greatest American movie in film history. It's about racial conflicts in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn, and addresses the views of Martin Luther King vs. Malcolm X (i.e., Martin Luther King saying that violence is never justified no matter the circumstances, and Malcolm X arguing that violence is "intelligent" when in self-defense) Anyways, it's a great movie that really shows a pivotal time in American history that not a lot of us experienced first hand but our understanding of it is crucial for the future of our country. Netflix that shit.
