I attended two events this weekend along with the usual hang out time with my family...The best was the 7th annual Pickle Festival.
A well known fact about me -- I love pickles. My love for pickles is almost boundless and I will try almost anything if it has been pickled. The exception to this rule of course is the horror that is pickled pork products. A lady has to have her limits.
While people were queued up around the block for Gus' Pickles and The Pickle Guys (which you can get all the time - foolish n00bs) I headed for the smaller pickle vendors. I tried pickled turnips, grapes, string beans, beets, cabbage, peaches - you get the drift - a plethora of pickled products.
My favorite pickle vendors of the day were McClure's Pickles - excellent garlic dill and spicy pickles.
McClure's Website My favorite non-cucumber pickle vendor was Wheelhose Pickles. They make the BEST pickled beets I have ever had. They also have really cute merchandise. I'll have to take a picture with my brand spanking new vampire pickle t-shirt and pickle pin from Wheelhouse.
Wheelhouse Website After take a quick picture with a guy dressed like a giant pickle (picture forthcoming) My sister and I went off with my friend KK to see a "music festival" in Prospect Park. At least KK claimed it was a music festival. In actuality it was a Youth Peace Rally organized by the Buddhist Organization KK belongs to ... why do I keep getting bamboozled into thinly veiled religious ceremonies?? It's like all the religious people I know are betting on who can convert me first -- argh.
It was cute to see young people all excited about changing the world (though the cynic in me is waiting for life to beat that dream out of most of their heads) and there were some mediocre youth dance groups and youth bands performing.
But ya know what? I am not a youth. I have not been a youth for a very long time and generally speaking - I don't like "The Youth". There are a few exceptions to this rule, but there is a reason I don't have kids - I don't like them.
Anyway that was the weekend ... Plenty of Pickles and Peaceful Pubescents
