I've been surfing the net for like-minded Filipina bloggers and I find that reading articles on issues important to me very comforting.

Here is one Filipina's article on abortion.

A preview:

Oh, I love Bowie. So hard. (&you can take comfort in knowing that I can name at least 10 people without even thinking who love him, too.) But then, he's a god in the rock world (and enough of a chameleon to have fit into several different scenes that I love, and influenced almost all of the modern acts I listen to), and my life's kinda steeped in rock and roll, and always has been (my dad used to drive me around in his car and play Dylan and The Beatles to get me to fall asleep when I was a baby). It's one of my... passions, I guess is the right word. Or obsessions, perhaps. What other music do you like?

Aw, I can sympathize with that. Well, not that exact instance, because my step-mom's pro-choice, and I've never talked about it with my dad but I'm sure he either is too, or just doesn't give a shit, but I definitely know the feeling of getting into a blinding row just because you've got a different (and generally more progressive) opinion than your parents.

That's a slippery slope used by most pro-lifers, it's really just what they think, apparently. I don't get it, but. Now, I can't speak for anybody else, but I'm a pro-lifer who's seriously, determinedly, outspokenly against murder in all its forms, including societally-condoned ones like the death penalty, and war. On the other hand, I'm pretty in favour of premarital sex, but respect that each person has the right to do with their body as they choose, including not getting it on if they don't want to.

&of course they can't control how you feel, love. I'd say, just pick your battles.

(I find that the important thing to remember when you're debating an issue with someone who's based their stance on their religion, is that you're dealing with their belief system. Which means you're not going to get anywhere with them, rationally, and you're not going to change their minds, because belief is not rational. You don't need a reason to believe something. That keeps me from tearing all my hair out. <3)

...Oy, long comment.
