I had a total Geekout!Moment at school today!
So....The New Jersey Playwright's Contest winner's play is going to be performed at my college in June. The play's a bit weird, kind of surreal, based on Greek mythology and some other stuff thrown in. And next to the acting happening on stage, there's stuff going to be projected on screens. My film class was chosen to film that footage and that's why the play's director came and talked to us today and we just bounced ideas off each other. Since the main character is slowly going mad in the play, my idea was to show that visually by saturating the color more and more by using this bleach process to make it look more stark and surreal. This idea is of course stolen from SG-1 "Paradise Lost" :) Anyways, so when I mentioned I had seen this done on a TV show and then explained the idea, the director enthusiastically nodded his head while I was talking as if he knew exactly the show and process I was talking about.
Well, turns out he did! Five minutes later, he talked about this part in the play where an actor dressed as the Egyptian god Anubis walks across the stage. (Of course, when I read the script at home yesterday I already cracked up at that part!) Then the director goes, and I quote: "Well, you know, for those of you who watch Stargate SG-1, you know how you can make Anubis look surreal. So, maybe we can imitate that somehow." I sat there, nodding enthusiastically, totally understanding where the dude was coming from, of course. From the others he got only blank stares. So, right there, I had this total Geek! Bonding moment with this 50-ish, posh, super intellectual theatre professor/play director. Totally made my day :D
