Alrighty then! YAH! I can finally tell you about the concert. Now that I've waited so long, I am sure that I've forgotten a bunch of stuff, but here's how it started out.
I was sitting here at home lounging around, getting excited about the show when Smitty sends me a message on MySpace to give him a call. So...I did. He wanted to know if I was coming to the show and if I was...was I willing to work.
Smitty, being my mentor, is hard to turn down and although I really just wanted to see the show...I knew that I might not have the opportunity again and went for it. He was happy...I was happy. Later on, I got another call from him. Surprised, I answered the phone and he said he had an odd favor to ask. *raises eyebrow
He wanted to know if I could get him some surge protectors from Staples before I came. Well...it's not on the way and so we both got off of the phone a little disappointed. Then, I got an idea, I called my friend Mike and asked him if he could pick them up and naturally, get reimbursed. He agreed and so I called Smitty back and everyone was once again happy. haha
He text messaged me later to tell me what time he would like for me to be there and then when I showed up, I couldn't find the boys. A few minutes after I arrived, he called me again. They were out eating and I had full control of the set-up. GULP.
I am fine with doing my thing for Starting Tuesday because that's my domain...this...was different. So, I did the best that I could and when they got there, Smitty was actually impressed. Dana came over to say hello and thank you and then my friend David from work showed up. Shortly after Domenick and Allison arrived, as did the Whole Foodies - Steven, Lily, and Mike. YAH!
Alex came over to say hello before the set and then I saw Justin Tosco from Justincase/Policy. I was surprised that he recognized me, but he came right over and gave me a huggle. WHEE! Then, Daniel and Justin from Starting Tuesday arrived and I also saw Jack, a local high school student that is always at the Cradle.
Soon, the set began and they played some of their old stuff, but a lot of new stuff and it was really good! I can't wait to see them again! Everyone with the exception of Mike liked them. He said that they were good, but he didn't care for Alex's voice. I'll forgive him because he's my brother. hahaha
After the set they all came over to sign autographs and talk to fans and the other boys came over to say hi to me. I actually had my very first conversation with Erik and for me, this was a big feat. I usually just stand there, gazing adoringly at him. hahahaha
Alex snapped a pic of me and Dusty and then Dusty took control of the camera for the rest of them. I'll share those in a minute.
Scott, Smitty's boss, came over and talked to me for a bit and got me some change when I needed it and then the guys went outside for while during the VACO set and that's when Domenick and I had fun with the lights. haha
Finally, Smitty came over and told me that I could go home, watch the show, do whatever. So, I stayed there for a little while longer thinking that the set was almost finished and everyone that came that I knew had already gone home. I decided I had had enough. So, I text messaged Candi and while I waited for her, I went outside and hung out with the guys for a while.
Erik and I again had another conversation. We talked about where I worked (he loves Whole Foods!!!) and he told me that if they didn't have to wait for the set to finish, they would have given me a ride home. Awwwwww! We talked about disc golf and all kinds of things and then they were all going back inside. Alex hung around to say goodbye and Scott took a picture of me and Smitty and with one last wave to Dusty, the night was over.
Me and Dusty - he rocks the harmonica and the banjo and the keyboard and percussion like you've never seen!
Me and Alex - this man is so kind and so gracious. He has a heart of gold and a unique voice that I can't get enough of.
Me and Dana - Dana is the lead guitarist and is just a super sweet guy all around. No matter what his hairstyle, I love it. hehe
Me and Erik - the other bass player in my life (You know I love you Ken! haha). Erik is a little shy and soft-spoken, but he is very interesting and kind. He's a great guy and I <3 him. He can sing too!!
Last, but not least - me and Smitty. He's been my mentor since I met him in September of last year. He always treats me with respect and does nice things like bring me water and whatever else I might need while I am working, even if it's not for him. It's the little things that he does and teaches me that really mean a lot. Love ya Brian!
Florez is supposed to be back and performing with Starting Tuesday at Duke pretty soon. I hope that they don't come here while I am in West Virginia...that would just not be right.
I'll keep you posted on what I hear! Take care and talk to you guys soon! *hugs T
