NYC - Day Three

Sep 26, 2007 06:45

Better late than never, eh? Sorry it's taken me so long to get to the third day...I've been wrapped up in this and that and before I dive into my homework today I thought I would take a few minutes here and post. : )

Candi and I got up bright and early with our tentative plans in mind that we'd made the night before. Again, we were hesitant about taking showers there, but we gathered our courage and headed in. Little did we know...

I turned on the water and waited for it to get warm...and waited...and waited. I turned the faucet from hot to cold...off and back on...trying to figure out what was going on. Finally, I resigned myself to trying to find at least a spot where it was luke warm. No such luck there either. Zach had mentioned the first night we were there that there was nothing like a cold shower to wake you up, but I thought that he had taken one willingly -- I stand corrected. hahaha I closed my eyes, took a deep breath...and in I went. I don't know what happened except that the water was sooooo cold, but I looked worse when I got out of the shower than when I went in...hahaha! Seriously...I was like, "What the heck happened to my hair in there?"

I wrestled with my hair for a while before realizing that it wasn't to be salvaged and Candi and I headed out for our big adventure!! We took a different route because we were going to a different subway station and before we knew it, we were happily sitting on a train to the Bronx where we were going to see Yankee Stadium.

Soon...we were getting suspicious because instead of going towards the Bronx, we started hearing stops that were in Downtown. However, it was a weekend and we'd been warned that the Subways take different routes, much the same as the buses down here do. We contemplated just getting off, but thought we would see it through. About an hour later, we find ourselves in Brooklyn...Coney Island...the last stop of the Subway. o_O

We got off the train and looked around for a minute before deciding that the way to get back was to hop right back on and go back. So...off we were again. 2 hours later and all we've done is ride the Subway. LOL *facepalm*

Finally we find ourselves happy to be aboveground once more and we are heading down the street heading for lunch. We passed by the giant library and planned on going there after we ate so that we could check in online before going to the airport, but unfortunately when we went back it was closed.

However, on the way from there to food, there was a whole slew of NYPD. Now, as many of you know...I heart law enforcement. Don Eppes is my Agent of choice, but hey...I don't hate. LOL So, as we're walking along I was wondering what it would take for me to get one to pat me down and perhaps even cuff me so that Candi could get a picture of it. I spotted one that I would be interested in having such a tryst with, but Candi pointed out that he looked like he was actually doing his job, so I let it go for the time being. lol

By this time, Candi and I like knowing where we are and where we are comfy, so we head to the McDonald's from the day before and have lunch. We were talking over our plan of attack when Ron calls. He wants us to meet him in Central Park to just hang out until it's time for us to leave. Though we were a bit disappointed that there was so much we didn't get to do, we were thinking that just hanging out in the park sounded ideal at this point.

So, we're off. We chose a route and headed to the Park. Along the way we realized that we pretty much had the hang of the city and were wondering why tourists were getting in our way when we clearly had somewhere to be. HAHA! On the way, I took in the sights and sounds and at once point practically got run over by a member of the NYPD. *beams* I was never so excited to have someone run into me in my life. hahaha. I know...I'm a dork.

♥ NYPD ♥

WOOT! Me in the cit-ay

I liked this building because it was swoopy...lol. Yes, I know that's not a word, but you know what I mean, right?

We stopped in at this little souvenir store and got some shot glasses for me, Candi, and her mom and then headed off again. Something exciting that I saw was Radio City Music Hall!!! *swoons...I heart music. : )

Finally we made it to the park and I am disappointed to find that I am weak sauce and have a big blister on my foot. Sad. Anywho...Candi is on the phone with Ron and we're waiting to cross the street to get to the park and this guy asks if we want to ride around in the rickshaw. I told him no thank you and we headed across. We sat down on a bench next to a statue and I was so happy to be sitting down.

I watched as beautiful horse-drawn carriages picked up people and began taking them on a tour through the park...it looked so relaxing and wonderful and the hopeless romantic in me wanted to just run over and hop in one so badly! hahaha

Another call from Ron later and we are once again walking through the park and trying to find him and Blair. We walked for a bit before he called again and this time we just told him where we were and we sat down. A couple of minutes later, they found us and we headed down into the grass next to the softball fields.

The grass was sooooooo wet, but we didn't care. Candi and I stripped off our socks and shoes and plopped right down into the grass, sighing contentedly that we'd been released from the prison that was our shoes. LOL

WHEE!! No shoes and cool grass = Happy Tini

One view from where we were sitting in the park...amazing that the big city is right there while we sat in the peaceful confines of the park.

We sat there talking for a bit, before we requested that Ron play us some songs. It was so amazing...sitting there in the grass, listening to Ron sing and play our requests. I was having a great time and then, just when I thought it couldn't get much better, Ron played, "I Won't Fall Apart." This song was the song that drew me in when I first found him and so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

They don't really play it on tour and so I'd never had a chance to hear it live and it was like my own little treasure as I sat there, just trying to soak in every note, every rasp of his voice...every facial expression. It was amazing.

Ron singing for us - does it get much better than this? I think not.

Unfortunately the time came when we had to head out. We parted ways with Blair and with soaking wet butts, we headed out of the park and enjoyed a ride on the Subway with Ron. It was nice to walk and talk with him. Have I mentioned lately that I just love him?

Me and Ron on the Subway

Me and Candi on the Subway. Ron took a few that were blurry...this is the best one I could salvage of the two of us together. LOL

Somewhere during the course of the weekend...I keep thinking it was this day, we were walking and Ron said something about being allowed to carry guns in Harlem and I told him that the guns weren't for the people -- they were for the cockroaches. HAHA! I just wanted to put that in before I forgot to mention it, because I was highly amused by it. : )

Anywho...we made it back to the apartment and I finally got to meet Aidan. He is a really amazing photographer and has taken some amazing shots of Ron, Zach, and Chris. Candi and I changed out of our wet clothes and watched some tennis with Zach and Aidan before Ron played a song for us that he wrote and demoed. AMAZING!!!!!!! I'm still not over it and I wish I could hear it again, but of course since they are trying to sell it to possibly Usher, we aren't allowed to have a copy. Sad. Ron isn't a hip hop guy, but let me tell you...he can more than pull it off. I thought it was HOT and I don't think Ron is hot...it's just not like that. LOL

Then, Ron took us back into Chris' room and played "Come Pick Me Up" by Ryan Adams for us at our request. : ) As always, it was wonderful.

Unfortunately, not long after that, it was time for us to head out and Candi and I hugged the boys before we headed out and Candi hailed us a cab. At the airport, we were in the line for security and the guy looks at my ticket, at my ID, back at me, back at my ID. I am wondering what the heck is going on and then he looks and me and says, "You don't have white hair...I do."

*hangs head. People...this joke was old in elementary school. However, this guy is holding my ID and so I figure I will humor him. I laugh and say, "That's awesome." He gives me back my ID and off I go. *shakes head

Candi and I found our gate and took a seat. Soon, we found ourselves engaged in conversation with the people around us as always seems to happen and then we're on our way. The flight home was a bit annoying because I didn't like the flight attendant at all, but the people behind us made up for it...they were awesome and really funny! : )

When we finally got home and got to the car, Candi and I listened to the CD from Ron and when we got home, we took a shower before heading out to get something to eat.

I called Ron to let him know we got home safely and then Candi and I crashed.

That pretty much sums it up folks. I hope that you enjoyed reading about the trip. I know I had a great time.

And now I'd like to take a minute here and say that none of this would have been possible without Candi. She planned this whole trip and did all she could to make sure that this milestone birthday was a good one for me. There was a lot of fun and a lot of aggrevation for her during the whole process.

Candi -- I just want you to know that I love you dearly. I always feel like you do way too much for me and a lot that I don't deserve. I am so very lucky to have you as a best friend and sister and I hope that you know that nothing that you do -- even the small things -- goes unnoticed by me. Every small gesture has been safely tucked away in my heart and one day I hope that I can find some way to repay you. Life has been such an adventure and we've been through so much together, good and bad. Life certainly wouldn't be the same without you and I can't wait to see what we get into before it's all said and done. haha So...thank you...for everything. You're an amazing person and I feel like we've been growing together a lot, over the past year especially. The dynamic of our friendship has changed, but for the better and I think it's only going to continue to grow as we do and I am looking forward to that!! You're the best!! Love you girlie!!
